i'm sorry but this is the FUNNIEST program
how is it the shops fault if people dont know what they have - i've seen first hand how many people are not interested in the deal they have - they want x phone for free and thats it etc
selling more minutes then needed - i do that every day with customers unless they are an existing customer no customer knows exactly how many minutes they use they dont bother checking, when they dont know what tarrif they are on or how much they are paying its obviously going to be an educated guess so it is safer to have a buffer of mins so people know how much they are paying!
it is very easy to see on bills how many minutes your getting
the fact people get commission apparently this is a big secret according to dispatches - you have to be joking right? out of every industry people know that mobile phone staff are paid commission
i agree about cpw/p4u (p4u being the worst!) can be very dodgy but theyre tarring the whole industry with one brush

but misleading people is always wrong! but again its not the whole industry

I'm watching this programme and am so thankful I came across this site way before cashbacks became a problem. It seems it's the poorer folk that have been affected but maybe I'm wrong? That's the impression I'm getting from this programme.

Not been 'slammed' either but that's only because of sites like this :j

  • I work for cpw.

And this programme is so incorrect its unreal.

    1. cpw staff dont get more money for selling one network over another the company does but to keep us impartial we dont know.
    2. We dont get extra commission for selling particular handsets.
    3. Contracts are not pushed on people.
    4. We are in impartial.
    5. 12 month contracts are not value for money anymore.

I dont rip my customers off however I agree with reehsetin, Customers want top of the range phones free so we can only do most on 18month contracts minimum £35 a month.

Sensationlised stupid programme. Punish us for making a living.
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

If you want to see pushy salesman take a walk around Birmingham town centre and watch the p4u salesman hassle passers by.

CPW do not do this but p4u chaps hawk outside their shops.

Not sure that's important! No-one is forced to buy anything. As for dispatches; it's ften sensationalist so I take it with a pinch of salt. Like most programmes they are only interested in ratings; not much difference between them and the things they attack!

Next you will be telling me that the dodgy pension saleman who conned people out of a decent retirement (after the 1988 change to laws governing pension schemes) were not guilty of anything.

Some of the salesman can be pushy, plus why the need to hawk outside the shop in public areas ?

Did anyone see the investigator at the big mobile phone conferance, asking questions about cashback companies collapsing etc and approaching all the big wigs of Orange, T mobile , Vodafone etc. One chief exec ran away from him, the other answered the question from the pulpit with the camera in his face, you could see he was sweating...

I find it simply and unutterably amazing that Margaret Hodge MP sided with the mobile phone companies over roaming charges to keep them high. The European Commission were trying to get them down for British consumers and Margaret Hodge was speaking on behalf of the mobile companies in order to keep them as high as possible

At least the mobile roaming charges have been reduced since the Dispatches investigation started. But not data or texts only calls are included in that...

It does not even cost them a penny to send a text. Apparently texts are practically the most pure form of profit invented!

Glad I watched the programme, I learned a lot that I did not know before.
I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...

It wasn't as hard hitting as I was told it was going to be.

They could have shown the evidence available from the Three sales director a few years ago advising dealers to offer cashback and make it hard for people to claim moneyback.

They could have brought up how networks bring in extra charges such as Voicemail retrieval or 1st minute billing in full as a way of gaining revenue.

Non DD charges and quite a few other additional charges that they earn money from.

CPW got a lot of free advertising tonight though. First on Watchdog with TalkTalk and then on C4.

As for the post above about CPW being impartial and giving he right advice.

I have had quite a few people come to me for a TMobile upgrade who have been told in a CPW that TMobile no longer allow upgrades on 12 month contracts and they would be better moving to 02.

I have seen comments by CPW staff in trade press saying how much pressure they are under to sell talk talk or Aol to anyone that steps into their store.

4u have their army of ex 2nd hand car salesaman standing outside with their blackboard and leaflets enticing people in with their offer of FREE INSTANT CASH that will cost them in the long run.

    Impartial my **se.

I dont blame the staff as they get paid minimum wage basic which can be topped up by commission. The more the company makes they more they make, so they try to maximise their earnings.

The staff have so high targets so it is in their interest to do whatever, to gain that high earning sale.

Recent comments published in Mobile Today from CPW staff.

1.CPW Managers salary is disgusting. Five months is too long to wait for a pay increase. Most managers earn less than their full timers.

2.People are leaving at an alrming rate, most of whom are long standing managers who feel they have been badly let down by this situation. The company has grown so quickly due to TalkTalk and AOL that it has turned into some big monster that can't be controlled.

    3. I was at a busy CPW store in the Midlands. I thought there was a printing error when i received my pay review letter last week. I believe the basic should be raised to accomodate the difficulty in making more commission now, due to the online market.

Meanwhile Phones4U had a staff turnover of 100% per annum.

It just shows that if you give honest impartial advice as they state, you are likely not to stay long or treated very well.
