Ideal, so nicely in time for the loan payment in future. I much prefer a particular day than last Friday or something.

Plus, it means your December pay won't be really early and so it won't be such a long stretch to January pay

Well, apparently, the boss likes to make December's payment on the day of the Christmas party............this years Christmas party is 5th December

I have checked out this fact..........and will be preparing for a loooooooong time until January's pay!

But, hey! I am being paid, can't complain!!

I have only just got in - went straight from work to karate, then straight from karate to the ski club......now need to cook something for "dinner" and catch up with MSE a bit!

Morning guys! We have a long weekend!!! :j

My new found paid employed status and the resultant money in the bank has given me a bit of motivation to focus - I want to get debt free asap so that I can start saving for a new house - something that the whole family want. There is no way we will be able to move before we are debt free, so that is my focus - I have seen this as my motivation all the time I have been on MSE - basically, we DO have sufficient equity in our current house to sell up and clear the debt.......so if the worst came to the worst, this is what we would do.

BUT that would leave us with a smaller amount of equity which we would need to use as a deposit, and when combined with the mortgage we would be able to get, we would not be able to buy anything any better than we have now.

So, I have always had it in my mind really (see diary number 1!!) that for every £ that is reduced off the debt, it is a £ saved as a deposit - I thought that might put a positive spin to the effort to make the money, rather than just "gotta get this bloody debt paid" negative feeling all the time!

(sometimes it works, sometimes it is the "bloody debt" attitude!).

So, anyway. I am going to set myself some targets and I will do everything I can to achieve them, without running myself ragged - I have a bit more "spark" I think since I went back to work, so I need to capitalise on this and not wear myself out (lesson learnt!).
    • current DFD - January 2011. Want to bring this forward to September 2010.
    • Make £1000 from ebay and car boot stuff alone by the end of the year.
    • Make £500 from bingo/games/matched betting by the end of the year.
    • Continue with the £10 a day challenge (the figures above from ebay etc will be added into the £10 a day totals)
    • Keep looking for mystery shops, and surveys - make £200 by the end of the year from these.
    • Pursuade OH to sell the little car (although it is in my name so I can do what I like, but he drives it and I would prefer to have him "on side")
    • Meal plan, shop online and eat properly.
    • Do realistic budgets and spreadsheets and review them regularly.
    • One latte a day only - more is not necessary, and I can't afford it.
    • Use the bus - this is working well so far and is far cheaper than the car.
I think that this is realistic - I would of course hope to smash those totals, but I need to get myself started, and don't want to make it too daunting.

So, this weekend, once the children have been skiing, will be making a start on these - I am a woman on a mission  :D

Thanks tea - I don't want to be unrealistic.....the reality is that we need £100k to even consider moving - £56k to pay off the debts, and the rest to bump up the deposit.

It doesn't really matter what the "equity" does in the house and house prices going up or down etc, because whatever we lose or gain on this one, we will lose or gain on the next one.

So........cash will be the key. And I have a lot of it to find.........but with the aid of my trustee mate :money: I reckon it can be done!!

we must be thinking along the same lines ..has a virtual butt kicking been floating about the boards ...i think i am gonna have to go cash only aswell...the visa seems a bit to handy just now ...it's always been my downfall
  • Of course it can.

You have achieved so much in such a short space of time already that you have shown nothing is impossible.
  • I love reading you r diary especially when you have one of your 'new found' surges as you always do so well with them.

I like the positive spin you put on it, I try to put a positive spin on things as much as I can or life would seem pretty grim!

As for the house whats wrong with the one you have, I mean what is it you and the family are dreaming of?

Good luck and have a good weekend

There is nothing "wrong" with the house that we have at the mo - in fact many on these boards would think it was ideal - 4 bedrooms, decent size, double garage, good catchment area blah blah blah.......

But it is not what we want - we live on a modern estate (well, 1990s) and we don't like the "hemmed in" effect - we like our space.......

I have always said (since we got married 18 years ago) that we would buy our dream house when I am 40. I have pretty much stuck to this all my life. Every house we have had (8 of them) has been a "stepping stone" to the one we want to stay in. This has worked pretty well with the exception of the one house from hell which resulted in this bloody debt!!! So, I am determined not to let that one house stop my dreams.

I am 37 now, so although moving house at 40 may need a tiny adjustment in the timetable, being debt free by then is def on the cards if I work at it. The house move can then follow afterwards - I am not going to rush into it - finding the perfect house at the perfect price doesn't happen easily does it!!

This is what I have worked for all my life - By then I will have done my bit for the children, with their skiing......done my bit for the financial institutions that charge me 24.9% on my debt, and so it will be time to do my bit for me..........

  • Sounds like a perfect plan to me and you know what they say about people who don't achieve their goals its usually because they don't define them, well you have so I have no doubt you will achieve.

I love the plan. And I'm sure it will work - I mean, its you! Those targets do sound realistic, absolutely, and I think you will better them - but better to have targets you know you have a shot of achieving.

I've pretty much lost touch with what I'm doing, to be honest, with this 2nd bout of illness - I'll have to start again from 1st June, as the most important thing is my health.

Main thing - good for you!
