Oh no Hypno, sorry you are having to go through all this worry. Do you pay your car insurance all in one go, or by instalments?
Could your OH take the job (assuming he got it) as a temporary measure - it may not cover everything but you would at least have less of a shortfall to make up? And then get him cracking on looking for something else?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
we are already up to the overdraft limit - I was sort of trying to be optomistic based on the expectation of the student money
OH is being paid - but only his minimum rate, so none of the overtime or call outs etc that bumped up the money, and that minimum is not enough to cover the basics, sadly, so we have been trying to make the difference with car boot/ebay etc and have obviously put all overpayment efforts on hold for the past few weeks in order to try and make the books balance.
I know that it is of our own making, the fact that OH left his job, but regardless of that, things are always bloomin tight anyway.......as I say, I think I adopted a bit of a head in the sand attitude over the car insurance, but now that it is due next week, I have to pull my head out of the sand and work out what to do.
Things WILL be ok.....they always are.....just don't know how yet.

We pay it all in one go. And typically the car tax, MOT etc has already taken the car savings "pot" right to its max over the last few weeks.
As for taking the job, the problem is that it is for the charity that he volunteers with.....he would love the job, but is very emotionally attached to it so if he takes it he would hate to let them down when another, better paid, job came along. I think with this job it has to be all or nothing - either take the job and stick with it, or let someone else have it. He really doesn't want to mess them around, and I understand that. Also if he takes it at this wage, he will WANT to stay there, again understandably, but of course that puts a greater longer term financial strain on us.
Even though I have a better paid job, with his "old" job, it was only just making the books balance - Without student money, ebay etc, it only left us £226 after bills and minimum debt payment to cover food petrol skiing etc etc so that is how precarious it was then.......if he has to take a lower pay, that wipes out the food/petrol budget and means we rely on the extra money from students etc just to survive.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Oh goodness, yes, I can see why that's a tricky situation (((hugs))).
There's always a way - you just haven't found it yet. How much is the car insurance? Is paying by installments an option, just for this year?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Thanks guys - paying by instalments just puts even more pressure on the monthly budget so it is swings and roundabouts really.
bingo - well, I am playing freebies as much as they will allow but they don't seem to be too friendly to me at the moment, and I dare not risk any "real" money for a taxi-like win!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. When does the shortfall occur? The footy season is nearly here, so matched betting will increaseNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Hi Hypno...I can understand your frustrations and it's hard deciscions. Is there no way of him going back to his old job?..I can understand where he's coming from with the charity job about not letting them down. It's so hard and I'm sure you'll find the answers somewhere...sympathy about the car insurance I have the same problem shortly and mine will be high and I haven't got the money saved yet.It costs me 10% extra if I don't pay it in full.0

Next week Gemmz
As for the matched betting - well, sadly I have had to use all my winnings to go towards the shortfall, so nothing left in betfair or at the bank to bet with.....stuck until I get paid later in the month.
Ah well, it is not as though all this is new to us :rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Okay, so how about sticking the car insurance on a credit card then? At least then you can pay it all off in one go once you get back to debt busting, and if you get a decent chunk of cash back then that can go straight off it too.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130
