I agree with bargainbabe (who I must be following tonite) :D . The whole point of asking for p+p is so that you can budget your bid. If the seller just guessed the p+p would be £2 then thats his own fault and he should pay the excess. What if every time we won an item we were overcharged by a couple of quid?? It soon adds up.
Depends how much you want the tapes though at the end of the day.....you could always pay the extra then in your feedback leave a neutral saying that he quoted you £2 but charged you £3.80.

I think you will find ebay rules provdie specifically for this situation in that they allow you "to make reasonable adjustments to postage costs post sale" sorry that shouldn't really be in quotes but it is something along those lines.

  • OK, this is what Ebay say

"When a bid is placed, the bidder is entering into an agreement with the seller to purchase the item, which most often means incurring reasonable postage charges that may also include packing fees."

I couldn't find anything that mentions making "reasonable adjustments". I've been Ebaying (as buyer & seller) for some years & I've not heard of this one. And surely that's not right. You could display a postage charge of £2.50 then after they win up it to £5.50 making "reasonable adjustments"!!!

I go with what was suggested earlier.

Pay by Paypal & manually change the postage charge to £2.00. Add a little note along the lines of .... "If you remember, I did email you & ask for a P&P cost - which you quoted @ £2.00. I have changed the postal charge to this amount, I'm sure it was just an oversight..." Offer to send them a copy of the email if he disputes it....

But I am in the "stick by your guns" camp & would only pay £2.00!!!

And as a seller I would simply refund your money or inform you I could not deliver at that price and you may collect the item or withdraw from the sale,I doubt very much you are talking about some large corporation here with this kind of sale, I suspect more just another ebayer maybe like yourself perhaps looking for a bargain and trying to earn a little extra cash and wouldn't feel right backing them into a situation whereby they supply you with goods at less than the postage costs, think about what you are suggesting would you be happy to do this?

I note Ben you did not back up your earlier statement.....I would have thought Ebay have rules and the rules have to be followed, If I asked how much P&P was going to be the seller is surely going to be obliged to honour what he said earlier.

And in your scenario Ben If I was a pushy buyer I could presumably file a Non supplying Seller report (or whatever they are called). And let Ebay sort it out.

As it stands I think it was a mistake by seller, and I would have been much happier if the seller had addressed my request for confirmation, where I noted to the seller about our previous agreement of 2.00 As it happens the seller just ignored my remarks.

Had he said to me "sorry guv I must have not been thinking straight I got it wrong the postage will be 3.80 if you agree to the total of 5.00 I can proceed, if not We can mutually abort," He could also have added "or if you insist I will post (at a loss) for the agreed amount of 3.20" ----If he had said that I would have paid him the 5 pounds happily, but he just ignores me, this is assuming he is reading the emails in full, As I suspect my comments are probably below all the official stuff in the emails he recieved from Ebay..."request total" & "paypal payment authorised".

I have paid the 5.00 in full and added a note to say I was disappointed you upped the postage, and did not say what your reasons were, as I had asked you and made you aware about the previous figure of 2.00

The sellers other items include one vhs which in the listing it states postage 1.95 (sellers standard rate) This was not listed last week. But I do hope he is sending me all 4 videos and he's not going to sell me copies on two video tapes, or he just sends 2 of the listed items. Of course if he does this I'll be jumping and taking appropriate steps.
  • Well I personally wouldn't of paid until the seller has replied to the postage question but hey ho. The next chapter of this transaction, providing you receive the goods in good condition is what feedback are you going to leave?

I don't want to neg him if it was a mistake, but if he ignores my comment on the paypal payment too, I'll be miffed again.

I'll wait till I get the goods before emailing him (directly) again about the postage charge.

Also I just started a new thread on feedback procedures, If I neg him he'll prolly neg me and I don't need that!
  • This reminds me of a bike I bid for and won just before Christmas. I was the only bidder in a week long auction and won it for £10. great I thought.. instructions were "no postage..buyer to collect" . So yes I messaged her asking for directions and a convenient time to pick up whereupon I recieved a full lecture in email saying what a bargain I had and how lucky I was etc etc and she sent me an official receipt for £20 .. yes she offered collection only at £10!

gordon bennet, what a cheeky so and so - did you pay it?

    My paypal account is showing

    Original transaction complete
    &
Related transaction - transfer from credit card (or something like that) complete 6 Sept 16:15hours

Does this mean seller now has my money?

Seller doesn't communicate at all, If I was seller I would have sent an email saying "Thanks for payment item will be posted on xxxxxx date" Then I would send another email when item had been posted.

I have a bad feeling about this guy.

There are a few sellers out there who have no comms at all with their buyers. Likewise with buyers. Hubby always does what you said you would do. He mails to say thx and let them know item is to be posted on X date.
