The major manufacturers sell machines with Vista as the default OS. They offer XP as an option for the people who don't want Vista, they're only interested in selling machines and making money. They not still offering XP because of some belief it is better than Vista.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    Microsoft grants XP new lifeline

Nice to see a bit of common sense being applied.

Some say common sense, other say cold hard cash and competition.

lol, good stuff. The last two machines I bought which came with Vista were soon 'de-vistar'd'.

When I had a PC I used XP - in my opinion it was the best operating system produced by Microsoft (and I had used everything from '95 onwards). Vista left me cold with all its problems.

I have solved it all now by going to Mac and can say that the sheer relief and pleasure of not being beholden to Microsoft, not needing anti-virus and using a system that just works and is a pleasure to use is immense.

Ah, but remember how fast 95 boots! XP and Vista take ages in comparison. It's all the resources. What I want to see is an OS which can manage disk space properly. It's XP's Achilles heel for me.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.
