Don't be so oblivious to the changes that were made in Vista for your benefit.
Not for my benefit as I do not have nor do I want Vista!
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It's entirely you're perogative if you wish to run a less secure operating system, no one is going to line you up and force you to move with the times.
I just wonder how many users of XP Pro have their account as an Administrator, and haven't password protected the default Adminstrator account that by default doesn't have a password set..0 -

Shouldn't that be insecure ?0 -
This is pretty much a pointless debate isn't it? Vista is more secure, fact. XP is faster (not on my hardware though) fact. People are used to XP and don't like Vista's improvements. Fact.
I cannot stand either system and that is why I have now moved to Ubuntu for everything except playing two or three windows games that I have. Most of my games are on the Xbox anyway.
Have fun plugging away at each other though. I am still having a good laugh at this thread!:rotfl:0 -
Everyone seems to ignore the fact, that it's the applications we use day to day that are of most importance, not the OS.
Sure we want a secure, fast stable OS, but that's just the base layer. We don't use the OS to create, we use applications. Applications are key, and if an application is more stable on one OS than another, then use that OS! It's all a choice.
Providing my OS is stable and patched to be secure, there is far less chance of me upgrading this, just because MS have released a new version, than me upgrading an application to gain new important creative (or other) features.
A well patched version of XP Pro with additional utilities, is easily a match security wise for Vista, if you are a knowledgeable user. Any OS used by a dumb user is insecure.
MS don't realise new operating systems from the goodness of their heart (that's more the realm of the OpenSource community), they are a business and do it to make a profit, just like Apple or any business.
Love Vista or hate it, it's here, before it's sidelined for Windows 7. If you want / like / need it, then use it; if not XP Pro is a good alternative, as is OS X Leopard (I actually prefer Tiger at present, total compatibility with some older apps), or Linux if you are that way inclined.
However XP is still here, it's good (based on MS OS product history!), it's stable, and it'll be around for years too.
PS As for comparing how many people haven't protected the default Admin account in XP: I imagine it'll correlate with a similar number of users who've disabled the UAC in Vista0 -
I haven't passworded my copy of XP. Then again, i could bypass any XP admin password in about 2 mins, so what's the point in deluding myself? I still use XP because it has full driver support for my hardware, it works, and I already have it, so no more money required. vista may be inherently more secure, but so what? I'm not running a bank from my house, I have nothing 'valuable' on my PC, my firewall works and my router has had its password changed, so my PC would need someone physically at it to be accessed, that would be a burglar, and no amount of 128bit encryption/passwords is going to stop them from just wiping the drive, so why worry?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

As pointed out previously, this is a pointless, go around in circles, debate. My favourite MS OS is Win2K, anyone want to make anything of it?0 -
unrich do you have any idea what you've done?!?!
You've opened another can of worms is what you've done- Google is your friend, use it :rolleyes:0 -
I've spent enough on Microsoft. Never again. Bill, XP is my last!!0

Well I thought it confirmed my opinion that the move from XP to Vista was marginal technically and retrograde financially. I'm skipping Vista.
As opposed to the usual O/S wars I wanted to see if an internecine MS debate could be started.
I think its interesting that for basic day to day use the major manufacturers agree. XP does fine for browsing, wordprocessing, etc...
