What resolution do you use?

Hi all. I am about to redesign my website and I was wondering if people could let me know what resolution they use. Traditionally I have designed pages for use with 800x600 resolutions, but I'd be curious to know if anyone still uses this low-resolution.

  • you need to make for this low resolution still unfortunately...there are a lot of people out there with 15" monitors running at 800x600, personally i run my machine and 1280x1024...
i would say that prob 1024X768 is becomming a lot MORE common nowadays

Yeah 800x600 is still generally the standard for minimum requirements. If it's a personal site though, and you aren't too worried about your audience then I'd just design for 1024x768.

The recommended resolution for my monitor is 1280x1024 but I use 1024x768 because my eyesight isn't what it used to be :o

800x600 and then bring it down to 95% of actual screen area so that you
are gauranteed all elemnts are within the screen area or have an adjustabe browser area, within the code so that the page resets to the browsers setup within the resolution its self, mind you not much good if people mess about with there browser settings.

800x600 is still the industry standard and 1024x768 is the second all other rez is considered to be outside of the "norm".

have a look here: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp they collect stats from a reasonable pool and show trends which might also be useful. for the time being 800 x 600 is hanging in there ;)

    Seriously????

I'm on a 17" monitor (TFT) but I find the print too small to cope with at the recommended resolution. I can see it ok but find I end up squinting to focus, even with my reading specs on, if I'm on here for long. Much easier to sit back and read on 1024x768 :p
