I couldn't care less about VED prices tbh. They're simply not an important cost to consider when compared with depreciation, insurance, fuel costs and maintenance.
Besides which my next car will have a 4.0 Rover V8, in addition to my 3.0 S6 diesel0 -

You mention insurance ... but in many cases the £400 road tax will be more expensive than the insurance for some!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
In that case, anyone want to buy a 3 litre Saab Griffin?

Hi folks, I've just bought a new car with cherished number plates (these are going back to the original owner) but when I get my new number plates is it mine or the dealers responsibilty to tax the car on the new number plates? Thanks for you help in advance0

My car does 49mpg.
My car tax is going down this year.
I bought it for fuel efficiency, not how hot it makes me look (some things are just not possible).

but surely this is relevant, the more desirable cars will be the ones with the low VED as this will be an attractive feature to a lot of potential buyers, which will mean depreciation will be lower compared to something in the 400+ bracket....work permit granted!0 -
I was looking at Mazda RX-8's but they are in the top tax band, £440 per year!!!
I have literally just given up the keys to my RX8 around 20 minutes ago. Feeling broken hearted cause it was such a fun car to drive & own - though very expensive, with rocketing fuel costs, oil, tax etc...my next buy, a chopper, £25 a year to tax, 140 miles from £15 of petrol, £166.14 to insure fully comp and I have a great excuse to never have to give anyone a lift!
But, buy Rex, you'll be sadly missed.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
What is a chopper taxed as?0

I think if the new shape focus remains in the £35 tax band then it may be my next buy in the future! Around 60-65mpg so not too bad!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

People spending £40,000 on a new car aren't going to be worried by £400 of VED when they will lose £7,000 a year in depreciation alone.
Personally I find the more attractive cars to be the least PC. A 5 litre Mercedes CL is going to be around for many many more years than a 1.2 litre Fiat, which to my mind makes the Merc the more efficient car.0
