Notice how most of the cars worse affected in 2009 are small auto's tho... The same car as a manual wont be hit half as much. Which is typical of a motoring press article...
  • ... why is that?
    I don't get it.

    Why is what?
Small auto's chuffing out more fumes? Or the press never really doing a good enough job? It's like after last years budget the press went insane about 4X4 stuff telling everyone how they are gonna be costing £400 to tax them. Which was bollox, as it was only lumpy stuff reg'd after 2006, which the press forgot to point out...

I'm sorry but if the price of the VED is so critical, you need to ask yourself if you can afford to run a car in the first place.

I was looking at Mazda RX-8's but they are in the top tax band, £440 per year!!!

Say your out looking at cars, and fall in love with a Focus ST3, you love the interior and options, you know it's quick but don't care about that, tax renewal arrives for a hot Ford Focus £400+

And to fair, why is a car which does 4000 miles taxed as heavily as those that do 25000 miles per year? One is emitting a much greater amount of CO2. Of course, we are being taxed for creating CO2, yet Carbon dioxide is produced by all animals, plants, fungi and microorganisms during respiration.

Me too, but think I'd just buy an old Saph Cosworth and Gordon can stuff his £400+ tax band.

Exactly. Any HOT car X-reg or older doesnt fall into the £400 tax band. Suggestions .... Audi S3, S4. BMW M3 (E36), M5 (E39) and many others ... Porsches. Ferraris etc.
