Hi searching-me,
try the RHS Plantfinder, and look for Sambucus nigra, the Latin name of the elder. You will get a list of nurseries stocking plants, and be able to find one near you, or one that does mail order.
I can recommend Hopes Grove nurseries, as suppliers of native hedging plants. It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -

It'll be in the hedgerows, and will soon have blossom on it. Which hill in Sheffield are you on? Can you get out into the peaks - there'll be loads there.

I totally agree. Elders are everywhere - I'm sure you will be able to find some in Sheffield. You won't need to buy one to collect the flowers: you should be able to collect flowers in local parks or ask neighbours if you can harvest their flowers. As soon as the flowers come out they are really obvious. Now that you are starting to look for them you will see them everywhere!
Why not plan a few lunchtimes so that you go and walk round local green spaces - you will then know where to look for the blossom. Or you can put a note on here asking people to post when they see the first elderflowers of spring, and then start looking once you know the blossom is there to search for!
