Whatever Simon Coughlin,Media Relations Coordinator of Allianz Cornhill Insurance plc may say - this is a pure harassment as people are made to run around their nuisance calls every now and then. I wonder how Simon Coughlin became their Media Relations Co-ordinator considering the fact that this matter has generated very bad publicity and has brought the organisation into disrepute.
If I were the Chief Execuitve, I would sack the lot who are involved in this scam for having brought the company into disrepute.
  • I had a call at lunchtime today, 5 rings and when I answered there was a
delay of a second then a click as the call was terminated.

This is not the first time this company has called me as the number was one
I recognized and a quick search found this thread. They can join the many
kitchen, double glazing, etc. companies on my don't buy from list.

  • Just received my first few of these calls.

Maybe we should use the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 see http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk/legResults.aspx?LegType=All+Legislation&title=Harassment&searchEnacted=0&extentMatchOnly=0&confersPower=0&blanketAmendment=0&TYPE=QS&NavFrom=0&activeTextDocId=1563887&PageNumber=1&SortAlpha=0

I'm going to find their CEO and present him/her with my request.

  • Just had another, second in two days

Anyone know a freephone number for Cornhill the one on Saynoto0870 is
    incorrect.

  • I should have checked Cornhill's site before asking, 0800 32 888 31 is
listed for home and car insurance.

  • I just had one of these Cornhill dead calls. In my opinion a system which by design rings me and then hangs up is contemptuous and deserving of such in return.

To maintain that they 'tried' to contact me is just telling lies. Ringing me and hanging up is not trying to contact me!

Anyway I am registered with the TPS , so how come I'm being bothered with these prank calls?

Being registered with TPS does not prevent any organisation you have given permission to call you, from calling you.

This permission may have been by giving a third party permission to allow "their carefully chosen partners" to phone you. Such as the Telegraph, or a number of financial institutions, as per previous posts.

The calls are not intentionally dead. They are a result of predictive dialler failure whereby too many calls are placed - and answered - for the number of staff available.

Companies are required by law to maintain the proportion of such calls to a low level, but obviously each one is irritating to the recipient.

There is no good reason why they shouldn't answer you with a recorded message, telling you that they wanted to speak to you but they didn't have any staff available. But companies don't like to do this, because it makes them look silly.

Which, proven by the fact that this thread started in September 2005 and yet the calls continue, Cornhill Insurance clearly is!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I got one of these today, and like those above I'm registered with the TPS.

Maybe we should all club together.. buy some automatic dialling machines.. and set them up to constantly ring Cornhill's insurance sales lines then hang up as soon as an operator answers. See how funny they find that.
  • OK... we get several of these nuisance calls a day now. I have instructed Cornhill that I withdraw any permission for them to contact me, and yet the pranksters keep calling me and hanging up.
I've submitted a complaint on the Ofcom website.
