Cornhill Insurance callback scam 01454 201129

I've just noticed that besides the OP being dated in 2005 it was dated well before Ofcom guidelines came into force which Ofcom only announced on 1/03/06.
In fact this post was made before Ofcom started their consultation which was on October 2005.
The next obvious question is was Allianz Cornhill complying with Ofcom's guidelines before they were even thought of considering the date of the OP which preceeds the date of the consultation (Oct 05) and then Ofcom's final statement (March 06).
I suspect that Allianz Cornhill haven't realised they are referring to a post over a year old.0 -
We have had two or three calls from Cornhill today - one which they spoke to my wife, and one or two abandoned.
They did NOT have a recorded message on the abandoned calls.
And why don't they CLI the 0800 number, rather than the 01454 one, if they want people to call them back on it?
Makes no sense at all to me.0 -
I can't believe this thread resurfaced after so long.
Why did I bother to ring back a Geo number? Because I have friends/family all over the UK- it could have been one that had recently moved house, etc. To some using email is almost as alien as writing a letter.
As for Cornhill's response above, much like their recorded announcement- I got bored and didn't get to read all of it...
Hopefully this thread will stop others wasting their time dialling the number.
When we want insurance, this site leads the way on how to get the best for lest (sorry about the spelling but it wouldn't have rhymed otherwise)....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
This scam is still running. My phone went at 1636, and quit ringing after 5 rings...not the 15 seconds the firm allege in their response.
Fortunately I input the number into Google, and up comes thisi site with the detail.
They will get a mouthful from me, as my number is registered with TPS for no junk calls. In fact, I think that I will report them

I have just received a call from 01454 201129 that dropped as soon as I answered - after putting the phone number into Google, this topic came up as number one in search.
18 months on and it's still going on?!
Not the best publicity for Cornhill?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

I have just had this and what made me most cross was that they called only last week and actually spoke to me and I asked that they remove me from their database.
I have called the 0800 number and spoken to a very helpful lady who has assured me that I am removed from her database and was also able to tell me where they got my number from - in this case The Telegraph newspaper.0 -

I can confirm that we leave a freephone number for the customer on a message, which should be played within the two seconds of the phone being picked up as laid down in the Ofcom regulations.
Yours sincerely,

This has been happening to my private home telephone number for some time I happended to catch the number and put it in a search engine to find this thread.
I would like to say that when we answer the phone there is background noise for at least 30 secs, then we say hello...sometimes someone says hello then there is silence and then the call is cut off by the caller. At no point is a message played!
I am not in the slightest amusednow I know who it is I shall be kicking proverbial !!!!...didn't and don't even want any of their bloody products!

It seems that almost two years on from the original post, this "scam" is still going on. I have received a call from 01454 201129 within the last half an hour. There was most certainly NOT a recorded message that played after two seconds either.
Luckily, I googled and found this thread before ringing them back.0 -
It's not much of a scam as it's only going to cost anyone a maximum of 5p to call them back - given that the call back number gives an 0800 number. But I still don't understand why they don't CLI the 0800 number which would avoid any accusation of scam.0

By not using the 0800 number as their CLI, Allianz saves itself the cost of the callback from inquisitive punters.
OTOH, Alianz clearly fails to realise how passing the cost to the people it cold-calls, will alienate them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
