i had always assumed T-cut is an abrasive paste which removes a layer of paint from a car revealing a glossy paint from underneath. using on pvc u will br adding minute scratches when it rubs of the top layer
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
  • I was told that swarfega was good for PVCu window frames. Have tried it on a plastic table and it seemed to work ok, but I have not tried it on frames, so I really woudln't quote me on it!!

I personally just try not to look at how mangey our frames are....

this may sound daft, but trust me im a cleanaholic. use nail varnish remover. it is fantastic it gets rid of years old grease and grime. when i moved my frames were in an appauling state so i opened the windows and got a clean cloth and just wipped it on. although one word of warning if you have any cuts on your hands make sure you wear gloves.

How ruuuuuude am I? Taking all the advice and not telling you how it went!

Well, Cif (the artist formerly known as Jif) works a treat to get the years of grime of the plastic itself - came up so nicely that i don't understand why the sellers didn't do it before showing people round... but that's another issue! :)

And I've got some Mer car polish that'll be going on shortly. The reason it still hasn't gone on is that i want to go over the plastic again before i seal it. it doesn't make sense cos it is now very clean but i just think that it hasn't been cleaned since... well... ever, so i'd like to do it again to make sure that it's even cleaner than it is now!

    thanks for the replies!

ps i'll tell you what it's like with the mer shortly!

Nonsense. When you've been calling a product the same name for many years. It's not easy to change your habits just because manufacturers decide on a name change. Most of the older and more experienced people in the glass trade I know, still call it UPVC. There are a few products that have over the years changed names. A few of us still use the old names, it's a habit because that's what we knew them as for years. This doesn't make any of us dodgy, or unreliable, or not knowing what we are talking about. Just a bit old fashioned. If I talked about 32 ounce, or Patchwork, or Cross Reeded, very few youngsters would know what I'm on about, but people with many years experience in the glass trade would know straight away.

Rex-Mundi, you're absolutely right I think the interchangeable use of the word Jif and Cif within this thread is an example of how the name you use doesn't matter, it's what people interpret it to mean that counts.

I don't see the connection between the two examples of upvc/pvcu and Jif/Cif, both of which were renamed in order to standardise their names across multiple countries, and your example of a colloquial term for 10 pence.

I suggest you think before you type next time. :D

    Hi Guys
Thanks for tips on keeping pvcu white.
I have just had a new conservatory fitted and i want to keep it in pristine condition.
So treating it with a silicone car polish will do that will it?
