Some of it is fine (& the low fat one was), but you are right, some of it is NOT the real McCoy & is some sort of substitute cheese stuff:mad:
Its great to give low cal pasta dishes a cheesy creamy stringy flavor, without lots of cals/fat. Being grated it goes much further than the soft white ball of mozzarella ever could, so better points value:D0 -
I have just rediscovered the usefullness of my magimix food processor.I usually buy packs of parmesan when they are reduced to half price at Asda .Last week i bought six packs and wasn't looking forward to grating and freezing it all,so i chopped it into chunks (apart from the hard outer bits,which i pulsed a bit slower later) and it ground to a fine breadcrumb texture.Ok,not quite the sameas grated,but i am looking to save time sometimes.
Could you buy the half fat (i get mine from Lidl) and process it?0 -

I like it grated, because it goes further & you can use less, very PSE (pints saving expert:rotfl: ).
You can easily find low fat mozzarella in brine, ie the balls in packs. Tesco and other major supermarkets do them, variously called "low fat" or "healthy living" etc.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

To us Italians (well to me anyway), mozzarella is the traditional cheese balls in brine. The other stuff is partially dried mozzarella, to give it a more compact texture and is well suited for oven dishes such as pizza etc.
I know that MrsE is after this harder stuff, but she said it was because she can find it low-fat. Traditional mozzarella can also be found in the low fat version, and can also be shredded into small pieces to top a pizza or whatever, although it would be a shame cook it in the oven as it's at its best when fresh.
Never heard/had mozzarella with pasta though...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
