Yeah if you call them with the evalue code they will honour the price and knock off some £ if you dont require a monitor0

Thanks Riker - seems daft that they try and channel their sales online then don't give you the choice - they must know that lots of us have lcd tv monitors these days.....0

A DVD/RW drive means you can CREATE your own DVDs whereas a CDRW/DVD combo means you can only PLAY DVDs.Please, is the a good machine to buy. I do not understand what 16xDVD=/RW Drive means compare to 48xCD-RW/DVD combo drive on some machine. Would be grateful if somebody could take the trouble to explain this to me. Am looking to replace my old computer and this Dell dimension 5100 interest me. It also comes with 56kmodem with Tiscali 1mb broadband. Is the modem built in as I do not wish to subscribe with them? Please help anybody. Thanks
The modem is built in, but if you have broadband the modem is no use since you will need a different type of modem. Be warned though - when they say it "comes" with Tiscali Broadband they mean you get an install disk. You still have to pay to subscribe to Tiscali and will need a special modem to be able to use this.
If you don't want to subscribe to Tiscali, or AOL or any of the other ISPs which are pre-loaded on the machine you just use the Control Panel to remove the programs as I did.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Don't forget CDRW/DVD combos can write data on blank cd's and erase re-writable ones, but cannot do this with blank DVD's.
But as you said it can still read DVD's, just not write them.0 -
I have noticed that many of the E-Codes quoted in previous messages are discounted for Small Business. Is it possible to use these codes if you are not a business and just a home user?0

Thanks for this, if I understand correctly I will need another modem if I want to have broadband. The built-in modem is only for dial up, am I right? Please how do I remove the tiscali programme from the computer. I have m eant to change computer but since I am not that confident to transfer internet connection and subscribe to the right broadband, this is holding me up. I guess, I will have to do it soon and am keeping an eye on offer from Dell. Somebody posted that Dell Dimension 5100 at £609 on special offer, this seems competive, but I cannot see a mouse and wonder whether I have to pay them seperately. Please check this for me and let me know whether this a good computer to buy. I want one with flat monitor and be able to burn CD/DVD. Thanks0

Just go to the dell site https://www.dell.co.uk then click on the "Home" under the Dell Home Systems section and then on the next page on the evalue code link enter 305 in the first box and whatever the evalue code is you have from the second.
The only real difference is that doing it through the Home user link VAT is already included whereas it's entered on the confirm order page through the business section. There are changes to the T&C's as well if you buy through the home user section (more rights)Welcome, rogerramjet.

Marylee if you change the " cover it with dell support services " and change to the first box -1 year collect and return the price rduces to £468.00. This 5100 includes a mouse.Alternatively if you have a tft etc and just want to change the main box instead.( very easily done ) you could try -e value code 305-d09511a.( about £100 less ) . However I must say these are not the best offers as I got the same machine on Thursday night with a free printer for £50.00 less. However I am very impressed with the service so far as it is being delivered tuesday night and they have kept me informed.0

Dell will be updating its machine offers on 22nd of the month so may be waiting until then to see if there are any better offers.
You can get a Dimension 5100 for £609 (D09516 I think) but it's not as good as the offer they had a few weeks ago.
You can also get 5% off this model using a discount code which is available at hotukdeals.co.uk (not allowed to post it here) which is valid until 22nd September.
To remove programs like Tiscali go to Start>Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs then from that list you simply choose Tiscali and it deinstalls it. I did this for all the ISPs on my machine and just connect to Broadband through my existing router box.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0
