.........and the fact that scan are generally considered to be !!!!!!

Are they? I know customer service wise they may rival Argos - but I just order things online (at prices that seem hard to get elsewhere) and pop in and pick them up when I'm passing. Last week I bought a 250GB Hitachi SATA drive for £70 and a Pure Evoke DAB XT1 radio for £65 from their Today Only offers...show me somewhere else to beat those prices. Admittedly they did make a mistake - they accidentally gave me a free PCI ADSL modem with each order - which really was only for Q-Collect orders over £200.
  • £30 for other bits I have forgotten.

If you can collect they might be OK, but if you have to get it delivered they charge you a fortune... :-(
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • Agree with that, I just specced a similar PC with components from Scan.co.uk for around £280.

I'm not sure how you are trying to win the argument of saying i built the same spec pc but it cost more (£11 more)?

Wouldn't it of been easier and cheaper to buy this pre-built one directly from dell?

    :T :T :T :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:   :o :money: ;) :j :D  :A

    CPU - £115
    Memory - £26
    Hard Disk - £37
    DVD Rom - £12
    Mouse and Keyboard - £10
    Case - £35
    Power supply - £15
£30 for other bits I have forgotten.

Bearing in mind to upgrade parts like memory or the DVD Rom is a lot cheaper at Scan, it is not awesome. Its not bad though.

Win XP? As mentioned, mboard, Cost of getting it put together, 12 month warranty. etc
Last poster quite right, very hard to win an argument this way..

Sorry but I've built loads of PCs and I now just look out for Dell deals - I couldn't build anything near as good or as cheap as the £407 P4 that I got delivered last night, or the £233 Celeron a few weeks ago, or the £186 Celerons at the start of the year.
If you're willing to wait a few months and keep an eye on the forums then Dell bargains do come up. And sometimes even their ordinary prices aren't bad if you watch them carefully.

wow, add the Dell 20" 2005FPW monitor and its only 196 quid more, bargin that must be.

Edit: It must be a mistake on the site, when I add the big tft to the other offers it comes up as "add £430" Could be worth it if you want one of these huge tft's and a new comp with a decent spec (no kickass graphics card though). Thats extra.

Just pointing out the el cheapo tft with this deal posted by guy above.

This is only £472 delivered (7% discount) if you happen to work for a large company and are part of their Employee Purchase Program here :

    http://www.dell.co.uk/epp

You could try and blag your discount as they don't actually ask for a code only a company name.

Got to admit if you can get this machine for £472 it's still a pretty good deal - the screen alone will set you back over £150 retail or £130 on Ebay. The PC is cracking but needs a decent video card to play latest games so expect another £110-£120 on top for that if that's your bag.
