I would advise checking with Virgin before doing this, because some providers do not like the account going into Credit. There have been reports of them sending the funds back to their source or even freezing the account on suspicion of money laundering transactions.
Also as Virgin do offer money transfers to a Current Account at Balance Transfer rates, I suspect the standard Balance Transfer fee would apply, but you could ask them nicely if they will waive this.0 -
How long does it take for the application on these?? I applied online when the "Cheap Travel Money" article first appeared (around 9th July) and have so far heard nothing from them. Absolutely sweet diddly. Not a peep.
About a week later they did finally search my credit file (I have free alerts through Capital One, which is how I know) but it's now been over 2 weeks and there's been nothing from Abbey to Me.
I thought it was plenty of time applying in July for a holiday in September, but starting to wonder...
It'd be nice if they'd at least send an email acknowledgment or something, instead of just finishing on a screen that says basically "you might hear from us eventually". Even a "no" is better than "no answer". They really take after a girl I once knew of the same name - I'm really going off Abbeys.0 -
My AbbeyZero application took around 3 weeks, and unfortunately it did bring my promotional period down to about 5 months rather than the advertised 6 months.
I did phone them every few days to hurry it along though (I can be persistant like that), so recommend you do the same.0 -

surely it should be 6 months from your first transaction?0 -

No I'm afraid not
With AbbeyZero the 6 months commences from the 1st of the month during which the account was opened.
So, open the account in July, and your 6 months starts from 1st July and finishes 1st January.
You can see how a month can get shaved off quite easily.0 -

Well what do you know, came home to find the agreement forms have arrived (complete with that second class 'priority' envelope haha). Begin phase 2!0

If you're looking to max out the 6 months I would leave it until Monday or Tuesday to send off the agreement, then hopefully your 0% will start from August 1 (running until 31/1/09), otherwise it could end 31/12/08. The cards have been sent out quite quickly after the returned agreements have been received so you should have your card by the middle of August. Sounds like it took about two weeks to get the agreement, which is about right.0

Hi. I've just been turned down for a Zero card. I wanted it to use on holiday. I've never had a credit card and my only debt is a student loan which I've been paying off via my salary for the last few months. I have an Abbey ISA. I don't know whether I should be worried and check my credit rating, or if they have turned me down because they know they're not going to make any money out of me!0
