The way I understand it, your account isn't opened until you return the credit agreement. I might give them a call.
I'm not familiar with the Abbey application, but did you electonically sign an agreement online, and this paper copy is just a formality (but also containing the 14 day cancellation instruction)?

If you do contact them, I'd try and request an answer to your question in writing if I was you.

If the application is done online, the paper acceptance follows soon after (the same for customers applying by other means). The account is only opened as soon as the credit agreement has been returned signed and recorded as received. Then the account opens, and if a BT has been requested, it will usually be done immediately, taking 7-10 working days to clear of course. So if LXGB asked for a BT to be done and gave details online, it will go through once the agreement has been returned signed. I would send the agreement back asap as I think it is 7 days or something like that.

Mmm… Application, valued existing customer, seven weeks old today…

My BT request of mid July is completely invalid now.

They obviously like to see a quick turn round on paperwork. :)

Best not to withdraw cash, although there is no handling fee you will accrue interest on the cash advance from the day you make it.

If you just spend on the card and pay it back in full you should pay no interest
  • Well mujipor will just have to make minimum payments every month for the while if he's just using the Zero for purchases. 0% til early 2009 on his card so he doesn't have to pay it off in full every month just yet.

Well the difference here is that you were conditionally accepted rather than having to apply manually. Of course that is no excuse for the terrible problems you have had which even I'm amazed are still continuing.
  • I applied for an Abbey Zero card around the 14th July, wanting to take it on holiday tomorrow (3rd September). I got a credit agreement to sign about 2 weeks ago, but still no card. Do all credit card applications take this long? Or is Abbey just overwhelmed?

No they do not. I applied for Egg Money online on Wednesday and was told within 24 hours I had been accepted. I 'signed' online and I have been told to expect the card any time now. My online account management is already set up waiting for me to enter the card number to activate it. When I applied for the Lloyds TSB credit card it also appeared on my online banking almost immediately and the card arrived in two days. Compare this to Abbey Zero, where there was a delay in every aspect of the application, it felt like I was managing the whole process, rather than Abbey.

14th July is the same application date as mine, and I’ve received nothing from them despite chasing it regularly. I presume you returned the signed credit agreement immediately?

Just scanning a few recent pages of this thread will show you there’s a fast lane for some applicants and there’s a bus lane. We are in the cycle path next to the bus lane, on a rainy day, being mashed up by the buses.

If only we were managing the whole process! They must be employing sloths and paying them with Diazepam.
  • I've never submitted a post on this Forum before, but I've just had such a disastrous time with Abbey - I felt I had to warn you all.

I previously had such bad Customer Services a few years ago I cancelled my Abbey Current Account. However, I saw this good offer on Martin's website, so thought since it was a couple of years ago I'd give them another go. I applied for my Abbey Zero Credit Card on the 10th July, today is the 2nd of September and I still have not had my credit card! Here's the problem - I have to do my balance transfer from my current 0% Card on the 6th of September. Applying back on the 8 weeks ago, one would have thought this was plenty of time!

They have sent all documentation to my previous address (which is fine as it's my Mum's), although the card is registered to my new address (they confirmed this on the phone). I've had to return 2 lots of forms to them, because they told me they had not received the first lot. Now I'm waiting for what I believe to be my third credit card!

I rang them AGAIN today and was on the phone for an hour. I spoke to a Call Centre Generic...who said I couldn't do a balance transfer without the card (although the account is open)....which I kind of understand. However the Call Centre Generic couldn't help any more in that "against our policy kind of way". So I then spoke to Complaints you actually did seem concerned and helpful but they put me through to another CCG and exactly the same happened again so they transferred me to another Call Centre (I think it was a UK one) and spoke to a really rude woman who was so un-sympathetic, concerned, didn't even say Sorry and actually used the phrase "What Do You Want Me To Do About It?"

Obviously these are 0870 numbers which are costing me a lot of money too!

Now I thought a way out of this and to feel like a valued customer of Abbey they be if they said: We'll do the Balance Transfer when you get the card and don't worry about any interest you occur we will refund....oh yeah and Sorry! I had to put this to her and she said I can write in with any proof and they'll see what they can do as it will have to be considered but would not guarantee it

I rang the Customer Complaints Team once again and although they were apologetic and understanding there was no more they could do, so it's been left with me waiting for my card....and hoping they'll pay my interest on the other card.

After an hour with this, I was left feeling so angry about the whole ordeal and after the rude women I said I just wanted to cancel my card. So I would STRONGLY URGE you, if there is another 0% Offer take this and NOT ABBEY ZERO! It's really not worth it!
