It's not about the money. People who do this sort of thing ruin Ebay for the rest of us. Dishonesty is dishonesty, no matter if it's 99p or £99.

    But sometimes people make mistakes....

    Such is life.

Well one complaint for one item won't get them kicked off, but obviously if they made a habit of it then........

I had the same with a recent non paying bidder claimed to have been in hospital with a sick child (aren't they always!) and when I checked they had been buying and leaving feedback all the time they said that no one had access to the account to pay me. When I pointed this out they claimed I had somehow hacked their account to get this information and they were going to report me as their purchase history was private and I shouldn't be looking.

Glad it's not just me Soolin! I had a buyer who hadn't paid after 4 wks of promises and ill relatives and various other life threatening situations, she insisted she'd sent a P.O. and it WOULD turn up if I waited long enough. Eventually I received payment, the PO was dated only the day before I received it, she said she was right all along, I said I found it strange it was dated the date before, she said the post office must've made a mistake! Priceless.

I've had people before come up with excuses and normally give people the benefit of the doubt that "the dog ate it" or whatever, but this is so obviously an excuse I would report them and leave a neg.

Relatively new to ebay and have had my first "the dog ate it" scenario, i.e. won auction as only bidder but got email saying item since damaged. I've been refunded and done the whole mutual agreement to withdraw thing.

I'm prepared to accept all is genuine and above board, the only outstanding issue is feedback. Should I leave any, and should I make reference to what happened in the comments? Seller has excellent feedback so far and no sign of similar issues.

I was thinking of leaving positive feedback, mentioning what happened but saying it was all sorted promptly.

Would this be appropriate in the circumstances?

you could leave a positive stating the facts
if the seller does it to another buyer it would show them its not the 1st time without penalising the seller now if it is true

Thanks for that, was inclined to do that and will proceed accordingly.

As we mutually agreed not to complete the transaction, I'm a bit confused as to why my account still shows that I still need to pay for 1 item (i.e. the one in question). Is this normal?

I've had confirmation that the dispute's closed and I'm released from all obligation to the seller so I'm surprised that it still shows in this way.
