Ebay.....Confused!

Hi

I'm relatively new to Ebay but have bought several items now with no problems. I won an auction earlier on today and sent a message to the seller asking if it was possible to collect the items as they are in the same area as me. I got a message back a few minutes ago saying

"Hi, I'm afraid Ebay has totally ballsed up this listing and have sold the same items to another bidder, they have done this with most of my stuff that was listed. Sorry for the inconvenience"

I'm totally confused, how can this happen?
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

What was the item - did it go for a really cheap price?

I reckon it's an excuse as they have bumped up the postage charge so you wanting to collecting it has busted their devious plan so they have come up with this ridiculous excuse. Or the item went for less than they thought so again they are refusing to sell to you by spinning this yarn.

PM me the ID of the seller if you'd like me to take a look and see if the story checks out.

It was some items of clothing, listed at 99p, I bid £1.00 (not expecting to get them at £1.00) and there were no other bidders.....postage was £4.00! though. Maybe they thought there would be more bids IDK

I would report them for non performing sellers then leave a neg after the rules change.

Just as a fence sitter, it's possible the items were listed twice in error (doubt it would have been Ebay's fault, as they usually warn you) it is possible.

Do a completed item search for the seller to check as said above, go here input the seller details and click on completed listings http://search.ebay.co.uk/ws/search/AdvSearch?sofocus=bs&sacat=-1&catref=C5&dfsp=1&from=R7&nojspr=y&fsop=1&fsoo=1&fcl=2&frpp=100&sofindtype=2&pfid=&satitle=

There don't appear to be any duplicate listings.

I agree, i think its because it sold for a low price. However, they may be wary of you knowing where they live as they live close to you. However, you should ask if you can pick up before you bidded. Good luck with what you decide though.

Apparently the new feedback rules dont count for transactions made now, only transactions made after the official date the rules change. So waiting until the rules change makes no difference.
