Modern cistern that leak from the screws

Is the donut rubber seal sitting on the pan before you place the cistern on top? You are more likely to dislodge it as you fit the cistern this way.
Try puting the donut on the cistern stretching it over the big nut. I cannot understand how this can be causing such a problem. I think that most if not all of the so called plumbers so far are cowboys. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I have homecare 400 and it is Dynorod plumbers who is part of British Gas who comes to do the job. I am sure they know what they are doing. I am going to ask for a second opinion and for a more mature plumber as they all seem very young. I thought Dynorod is a trusted company. I honestly do not know what else I can do beside smashing the toilet. I have noticed the leaked is from the toilet bowl and it is there where the drop is forming although the cistern is a bit damp from condesation.. I have lost hope that I will ever be able to solve this toilet leak mystery if the professionals cannot help. It is going to turn out to be very costly & it is really doing my head in. Thanks0

I thought Dynorod were a drain clearing company. You may find they have very few more mature plumbers working for them.
My advice would be not to bother with them again, go to the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering website
http://www.ciphe.org.uk/iphememdb.html
search with your postcode for a local plumber and I'm confident they'll fix it or correctly diagnose it first visit. It'll be worth paying to get it fixed once and for all.
If it was the donut washer then it would only leak when you flushed, it's going to be the coupling bolts or the drop valve gasket, both very easy to put right if you know what you're doing. The only other possibility is a crack in the cistern, again very easy to spot when you have the cistern off.
Although you say the leak is now from the pan? Has the pan connector been checked?0 -
Is this a problem with bottom inlet cisterns? 'Cos I've just ordered one as a "special order"
when I could have had a side or rear entry model from stock (this is from Germany).

The plumbing job is usually done by Dynorod plumbers. I do pay as much as £28 a month for homecare 400. Am I wasting my money with the insurance? The toilet does leak when I flush it but it takes about 15 mins for the drop to form, and it starts to leak on the left side of the coupling bolt as well, thanks for your advice, I will find out what plumber does my area?0

Yes, it is but you might not have any problem with yours. I guess, I have been unlucky. I am sure yours will be fine.0 -
The pan connector has not been really checked, we have been concentrating more on the cistern. I will do that, I will call BG again and see what they have to say, after all I am paying quite a bit for their services.0

If it's only when you flush then it may be a mis-shaped/misplaced donut, the coupling nuts may not be tight enough, or it may be fitted in such a way where the cistern isn't sat correctly (if the soil spigot was too short/long/high/low creating a situation where the cistern is leaning forward or back) making it impossible to create a seal between the pan and cistern.
Check the link I posted and get a professional to check the whole installation, and consider cancelling your insurance.0 -
The link from moneysavingplumber is spot on. Except that I would put the doughnut washer on to the cistern outlet pipe before settling the cistern in place. It is far too easy for it to get displaced and you would not know until the damn thing leaked again.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
LouLou41, I work for Armitage Shanks!
Can you tell me what model of cistern you have? maybe I can help?
I just read through this thread whilst looking for something totally different. YOu mention that you were going to call Armitage Shanks but not what was said.0
