I've had three satnavs, Tom Tom being the latest and all have been pretty useless at getting me where I'm going. Only last week I got lost (or Tom Tom got me lost) in Macclesfield, a road was closed which totally confused the nice lady on my satnav. A friendly local pointed me in the right direction as usual. Defeats the object a bit really doesn't it?
I've had it take me to a left turn only telling me to turn right, only for it to use it's wonderful re-routing to send me in a long circle back to the left turn only to try and tell me to turn right again :mad:Thanks for that. I've informed Tomtom that they're selling pirate software.Besides, would you send a tomtom to a place like that? Surely they'd make more money keeping it and not sending it back :rotfl:

I had an old lady once tell me that the sat nav took her to Newcastle, hundreds of miles from where she wanted to be. She said she told it to take her to Newcastle Road somewhere on the other side of the country. How she let it get her that far before she realised she was nowhere near where she ought to be has never ceased to amaze me. She said she definately put in the right address and the sat nav took her to the wrong place all by itself. :rotfl:0

Riiiiiight.
I take it you're not aware there are two Newcastles in the UK?
One is Newcastle Upon Tyne and is in the North East, the other is Newcastle Under Lyme and is near Stoke on Trent and about 150 miles from the other Newcastle. I know what I think happened.
As I said....common sense. Peoples knowledge of their own countries' geography is absolutely appalling in the UK.0 -

i need france maps, do i need to buy a new memory card for my tom tom, or will the one i currently have in my tom tom one be enough ? ?
Im a complete novice at this.0 -
Be careful of the software edition on your tomtom. Apparently my version is two years old and the new maps won't work.
So tomtom say to load tomtom home and update the software before buying the maps.
Then I find my software is so old (2-3 yrs) that tomtom home won't recognise my tomtom. So I need to getan old version of tomtom home and upload that, then upgrade to the new version, then hope the tomtom still works, then pay £40 just for a map of Italy which may not fit on my memory card.
So instead I try to arrange to hire a satnav with the car hire and find that they can't guarantee satnavs from the airport I'm flying to.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Are you sure about this? I was one of the original Tomtom Go buyers about 4 years ago (yes, I paid £400 for it  ) and I have consistently manged to update the software using Tomtom home and I have the latest UK, Europe, Canada and US maps which all work perfectly. No idea why your one won't update. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -

I'm thinking of buying my 1st sat nav and am thinking of tomtom but with these software problems on some, am wondering if it might be better getting a different make as the little compact looking one appeals due to space in my small car?O0
