I will say, don't believe everything you read about the Centurion Card. Not everyone that has one is a billionaire or celebrity. I will happilly answer any questions about the card.

I can send the link to the photo on to someone to post if that helps at all?

Please tell us some gossip about the card.... what limit it is lol - does it really cost you £675 per annum just to have it? Is it really hand delivered by a bank exec? Do you get rooms that aren't really available in hotels? And finally, what do you have to do to get one - I heard you had to be invited and only existing account holders could be invited - exceptional account holders?

sorry again for doubting you, at least you can see why I did - but thanks for proving us all wrong. Far fetched indeed but nicely done.....

    cheers

    Hi Never-in-doubt,

Limit: There is actually a limit on the card, but it is based on your past spending habits. Typically it is 1.5 times your largest bill that you have paid in full, but they obviously give you an initial line when they credit check you. You can call up and they will give you a rough idea of what you are free to spend.

Fee: It was £650 for a long time, but with the Titanium refresh the fee has significantly increased to £1800 a year. It is a lot of money for a card (as it works out about £5/day) but the benefits can make the fee worthwhile if you fit a certain profile of regular travel.

No its not delivered by an exec, that was a common myth. The old cards were sent via normal Royal Mail, though when they recently sent out the new Titanium cards, they came in large presentation boxes that were delivered via DHL. I can put up some photos (well when my user account lets me!) of the box it got delivered in if anyone is interested.

Hotel Upgrades: Another bit of a myth really, you get sttus with certain hotel chains as some of the core benefits and it is those that typically yield the upgrades. Upgrades for actually using the Centurion Card do happen, but not as often as the myth would state. I've had some nice upgrades though when it has happened.

To get one? The criteria varies per country; for the US they have defined clear criteria of $250k spend in 12 months, good credit score and cardmember on another of their products for at least a year. For the UK, it's less defined - perfect payment history in preceeding 2 years is one, cardmember on another charge prodcut for 2 years, and a 'healthy' spend, I got my invite a long time ago with an average monthly spend of about £7.5k (my job at the time involved lots of travel, and booking lots of stuff for events).

No need to apologise, I know how it may have come across! Happy to answer any questions about the card, or any of my other cards for that matter!

Sorry to be rude but please give an idea of 'what someone would be free to spend' - is it a chargecard that needs full payment monthly then or the CC version that accepts a % amount of the balance?

I'd love to know if I could go and buy a porsche outright! lol

Ahh right so really it would be offered to high spend existing customers, not those that maybe pay the min balance and have £5k limits etc....?

Thanks again for the help - appreciate it..... At least now I know what card I want, but just can't get!

It is actually both now - in the past it was a pure chargecard, so whatever you spent each month, needed to be paid in full at the end of the month. Recently though, AmEx have introduced 'FlexSelect' which gives you a traditional line of credit so that any item over £500 can be moved over to the FlexSelect account and paid off over time. You don't have to have the FlexSelect feature, and I switched it off as the limit they gave was useless.

I've tried to buy a car before on the card (not a Porsche mind you), and the dealers get funny about it given the fee that AmEx want to pass on, so ended up using a debit card instead and getting a better discount.

I know, I have a few friends that also have a Centurion Card and they are not happy, a few of them have already said they won't pay the hiked fee.

Cool - but if only the driver knew what he was carrying - hmmm, i'd be off (retired in acupulco) lol

Maybe, but then you have to call up and activate the card when it arrives - so they'd need to know the answers to your security questions. ;)

Correct, they will look at customers with Gold and Platinum Charge cards that are spending healthy amounts and paying it off in full every month, and fit a certain profile (for instance, those that travel a lot, as AmEx can potentially earn a lot of money in booking fees).

    You never know ;)

Thanks 747 - appreciate the help..... although you've still not indicated what kinda limits they give! Like 10's of thousands or singular or hundreds? lol

The US version stated at launch that you were guaranteed a $500k limit

OK 747, I too will apologise, I think that you will agree for a new member to come on MSE and declare cards of that nature did take a bit of believing.

I didn't even believe the photo, because that could have been acquired off of the net, however you have since given enough supportive evidence to substantiate your claim, so well done to you, and again sorry.;)
