I was prescribed Montelukast by my doctor last year. Worked a treat but haven't got round to getting anymore for this year yet. Was taking a spoonful of honey a day plus my loratadine and it worked well for a while but its really starting to affect me now though...constantly blocked nose which doesn't just drip...it runs, really sore, itchy eyes and the usual sneezing. Not sure what the generic ingredient in montelukast is but i did a search for them and on wikipedia it says they are mainly taken by asthma sufferers. I have very mild asthma (2 inhalers in 8 years) but they were great tablets! Just need to find generic ingredient and then get em cheaper than through a prescription and I'm sorted!English by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0

I hope moneysaving pharmacist can answer a question for me.;)
Can you tell me how long it is likely to be before GRAZAX is available as an NHS prescription item please?
I read earlier in this thread that at the moment it costs ~£90 per month for this treatment and the price is prohibitive.
Thanks
Nile
It depends on the PCT and the consultants at the hospitals. I believe some of the consultants in my local hospitals are using it, but only for a few patients.0 -
If it works for you:
yesterday I got both Lloyds equivalent of medinose and their air purifier for £13.49.
Lloyds are doing a deal where you buy both for £19.99.
i had a 10% off the medinose voucher from saturdays paper.
The till didn't like working both deals together, so she gave me the air purifier and used the 10% off voucher.
I don't know if this will work in every store, but too good to not try.

Piriton certainly helps me cope with Hay Fever and can calm down insect bites too.
Tesco pharmacy sold me 500 tablets (unbranded) for £8.18 (expiry date is 2010).
Going shares with another sufferer makes this a sound buy :T.
which Tesco sold you them?
Pharmacist at Tesco York said "dont beleive all you see on the internet, 500s are prescription only."
it would be a very freindly doctor who prescribed 500 on one prescription0 -

Ordered 8 Cetirizine Hydrochlorides from Chemist Direct www.chemistdirect.co.uk two nights ago, they turned up today. Absolutely awesome at 39p each. If I take one and I die, I'll try and let you know before I keel over completely.
The confirmation email I got had the wrong address listed... however the package did turn up to the correct address. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -

I believe you would have been sold a pot of 500 Piriton tablets, which are Pharmacy Only, NOT Prescription ONLY.
There is a clear distinction between the two.
eg. Cetirizine Tablets 30s, can only be purchased via a registered pharmacy, as they are a (P MED) and these cannot be found on the open supermarket shelves.
The way to check is look at your box and there will be a small box with a letter in it
POM = Prescription Only Medicine
P = Pharmacy Only
GSL = General Sales List (Eg Supermarkets, Petrol Stations etc)
Hope this clarifies the law a little“Official Company Representative

Hi. My first post to MSE although I have been following for a few years...
This is such an important subject to me that I thought I should contribute.
I have had really bad hayfever for about 12 or so years.
Recent (7 or 8) years have seen me sneezing every 30 seconds or so some of the time.
A few years ago I went to my doctor and asked for immunotherapy treatment (I'd read about) which is where you are injected with the allergen, e.g. grass or tree pollen and you (hopefully) become desensitised. I understand that the French have developed a sub-lingual (under the tongue) drop formula which is able to be administered by the patient but I'm not sure it has passed all the tests yet. With the injections (that I have received) you have only a few places in the UK where you can have it done and also you have to wait, have the injection and then wait an hour in case you get an anaphelactic (spelling?) shock. So you end up being there at the hospital for ages. Plus the treatment needs several shots over a couple of months and this reoccurs for 3 years.
I found this to NOT be particularly effective (although some people do find it effective).
I spoke to my immunotherapist and she suggested the following to manage my symtoms, which I ASKED my doctor to prescribe this year (2008):
*** Neoclarityn (desloratadine) 3rd generation drug
*** Flixonase nasal spray (fluticasone propionate) 3rd generation drug
*** Optivar eye drops (azelastine)
I am NOT keen on drugs but I will do anything to try to resolve my hayfever problems now!!!
Well, would you know it... It has been amazing this year (2008) so far.
Mainly due to the neoclarityn (as I have not used the other treatments that much).
I have tried claritn, pitiron, zirtek, benadryl, beconase before several times and not found them effective. Benadryl, in fact, just made me sleepy ALL the time!
A list of hayfever drugs:
Neoclarityn (desloratadine) 3rd generation drug
Zirtek (cetirizine dihydrochloride - CD) 10mg
Xyzal (levoceterizine)
Claritin (loratadine - LR)
Piriton (chlorophenamine - CP)
Benadryl (acrivastine - A) drowsey
Benadryl Allergy Relief by Pfizer (acrivastine), not to be confused with Benadryl Once a Day by Pfizer (cetirizine)
Flixonase nasal spray (fluticasone propionate) 3rd generation drug
Beconase nasal spray(beclometasone dipropionate)
Nasonex nasal spray (mometasone furoate)
Astelin nasal spray (azelastine)
Optivar eye drops (azelastine)
Other things that help:
Nasal saline douche in the morning
Hoovering a lot to remove cat and pollen allergens
Keeping cat out of the bedroom
Ioniser
I really hope this will help other suffering people out there!!!0
