Just looking for some suggestions here. I love a pork chop with butter beans which
I cook in a creamy mustard type sauce. I'm hopeless at picking a good vegetable
side dish though, never sure what goes best with what. I always end up having
savoy cabbage with this, but I'm bored of it now.
So, what other veg would say goes really nicely with pork chops?0 -
Hi Isklar:hello:
I have to confess to not being a huge pork fan myself. However I have looked up a load of threads with various ideas and suggestions for youThey won't necessarily just name veg but will also have pork dishes such as casserole, curries, etc . Pork can be extremely versatile so there are so many other ways you can serve it , not just cooked with sauce and veg . I imagine most veg would go with it to be honest

Leftover roast pork

I'll add your thread to the first one later to keep the information together
thanks

As Zippy says, I think most veg go well with pork, so I'd work on something that matches with the creamy mustard sauce. Anything green would probably be good - broccoli, leeks, kale or other cabbage-y things, green beans... Alternatively, how about doing a veg mash to soak up the sauce - any combination of root veggies would probably go nicely.

Kale, yum, that sounds fantastic and something I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks very much!0 -

No problem!
Kale's one of my favourite veggies, and goes particuarly well with things in creamy sauces, imo. I think it's something to do with the curly leaves, so all the sauce gets trapped... :drool:Back after a very long break!0 -
Pork and... cooking apples, cider and cream! Brown the meat, add chopped onions and chunks of peeled cooking apples, let it simmer until meat is cooked but apples not gone to pap, put the fire high and add a good splash of dry cider. Let reduce and add a good splash of cream. Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with potato mash and steamed kale on the side.
If you are fed up of cabbage, another way of eating it, much superior to steaming, is chopping it and sauteeing in oil, garlic and chilli flakes, adding a splash of white wine and a splash of water. Close lid and let braise until soft but not mushy. Goes well with simple fried pork cutlets. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
You could also change the cabbage mix by chopping a small apple, a red onion and a garlic clove, lightly frying them in some melted butter then stirring in the shredded cabbage. Put a lid on it, take it off the heat and it will steam for another few minutes. Lovely combination of pork, cabbage and apples! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Hi - I also really like pork. Often I do roasted vegetables peppers, red and orange/yellow, courgettes, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms put in for the last 10 mins. Or, roasted root veggies, butternut squash, carrots, parsnips and sweet/ordinary potato. Yummy!
Alsso Ratatouille is very nice with pork - HM of course. As you make it all these dishes in one it is the 'easy' and tasty option.
Happy cooking and eating0 -
Pork and leeks are lovely. And I've just made pork in a creamy cider, onion and mushroom sauce and served it with mash and broccoli and it was delicious0
