Car buyer wants to check car before buying

I wouldn't let them take the car for the following reasons:
If its untaxed, the police could stop it and impound the car at your expense.
You dont know about insurance.
You dont know what they would do to the car when its gone
You dont have any gaurantee that they will buy it.
You dont know them from adam. They could leave you their car. How do you know they are not just gonna drive your car to someone else, leaving that as security for another bigger, better car they have seen? Extreme I know.
All of these things could be seen as being over the top but then all of them could happen!
Say to them you cant let the car go on the road because it would be illegal with no tax. They are welcome to get someone to inspect the car at your location and if not, then they can have the deposit back minus advertising fees (£19.99 autotrader).0 -
If it is untaxed, how do they propose getting the car to the garage?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

So what will you do when they bring it back and say that after the inspection it need £xxx of work doing and therefore our top price is £3xxx? Get them to agree the price first.
Thanks - handshake has already been done at a price and initial £100 deposit and reciept taken.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

You are breaking the law by allowing it on the road, read the SORN Document that you agreed to, you will be liable for any fines incurred, as well as back payments of tax.
You have asked for advice, been given good advice, and chosen to ignore it.
Why bother?
Thanks for the advice?
It is SORN, I've driven it yesterday to MOT station and back - as allowed under SORN regulations. They are taking the car on trade plates covered by the garage's insurance.
I have not IGNORED any advice, but taken it on board - I'm not 'a one-post wonder' and after a practical solution.
I have asked if I can go with them and they have no objections - but unsure if I have the time to do so myself.
As for turning the sale down, the vehicle has been advertised for 3 weeks and this is the only/first bite - the potential readvertising costs are unknown in order to find another potential buyer.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Well had you have bothered to mention the " trade plate " situation in the first place, you could have saved us all a lot of time.:rolleyes:0

Sorry, As I've read posts I've texted the buyer and got the answers from them back with an inevitable time dealy inbetween, it was once I mentioned about how they were getting it to the garage they said they would use the garage's plates.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

If I was having an inspection done the price I offered would be subject to the description being accurate.
To take an extreme example if on inspection the head gasket was gone then you wouldn't be paying what the same if the gasket was OK>0 -

When I sell a car, it is sold as seen and there is no need for the car to be taken to a garage for inspection before buying and I would not allow this to happen. It is quite easy for any knowledgeable person to check the car out at the sellers address. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
What is the best way to do this...
A buyer's husband works in a garage and wants to take it to this garage (15 miles away), check the car, then return it...
So far the have only paid £100 deposit.
I've re-mot'd it and had an HPI check done for them. They were talking about doing an AA vehicle check - until they realised how much it was.
I dont have the ability to go with the car to them (it has no tax), or the time to wait while they give it the once over.
What would you suggest as the best and safest option around this?
Wanting to do this myself and hope you can answer the following:
Which part of this do i enter into the HPI check?
BTW this isn't mine, but a sample one i found online!
