Car buyer wants to check car before buying
Options
What is the best way to do this...
A buyer's husband works in a garage and wants to take it to this garage (15 miles away), check the car, then return it...
So far the have only paid £100 deposit.
I've re-mot'd it and had an HPI check done for them. They were talking about doing an AA vehicle check - until they realised how much it was.
I dont have the ability to go with the car to them (it has no tax), or the time to wait while they give it the once over.
What would you suggest as the best and safest option around this?

Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Can't really help you - but warning bells are ringing they might never bring it back - do you have a friend who can go with them. Or perhaps get the name of the garage and check it has been booked in for a once-over with them but still could not turn up. Hope others can help.
Good point from ariba.0 -
Dont really want to turn down a buyer, the advertising has lapsed - so to find another buyer is an additional outlay. Finding the buyer is the hardest part.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

You want to sell the car; go with them.
Either that or tell them that they cannot do it, and should buy the car based on inspection at your house.
How much are you selling for?Happy chappy0 -
I wouldnt let them take it!
Tell them they can check it over or bring a mechanic to it at a convenient time, and that if they want to pull out of the sale you will happily refund their deposit minus the cost of re advertising it. I think that's fair:)*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me0 -
yeah i wouldnt let them take it with a £100 deposit thats for sure
surley if theres a good chance of a sale then its worth 2hrs of your time ? or explain your not comfortable with them taking it and you cant go along , but the mechanic is welcome to inspect it your home at a suitable time0 -
Its 3800, I'll explain the predicament to the buyer - (ie I may never see the car again which is my concern + liability of driving it having no tax)Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Better to pay out to re-advertise than to have your car nicked. If they want it they can get someone to inspect it at your house.0 -
You will be liable for allowing your un taxed car on to the road, do not allow that to happen.
They can inspect it at your property.;)0 -
Can you get hold of some ramps that should at least allow them to look underneath it if they want.0
