my son ordered 3 cd's on-line,they didnt stock them in store, and would prob take 28 days to order, through them, but we ordered and had them delivered in no time at all, although they did arrive on different days, when prob would have been cheaper to send them altogether(good job it was free del).Very quick though 3 days quickest and 7 days the longest so not at all bad.we will use them again.

HMV are !!!!, I have made a few orders and in the end cancelled them all but one as they take too long to arrive.

Classic example. I ordered my brother a christmas cd in November for his christmas present, it arrived in January!!

Also if they do not have it in stock it doesn't tell you until you have confimed order etc that it will be despatched when it arrives at their warehouse.

HMV are pants.

• Last time it took a week to dispatch an item, but it was something that was really popular (ER box set at a tenner, normally £30-40), don't remember how long it took to get here though. I'm sure it was less than almost a week though.

Only ordered from HMV once and took about 10 days. I had already been let down by Blah who had taken my order, but failed to let me know that the item was no longer in stock. Think I will stick to CDWOW and Play.com in future. They seem to be much more reliable and delivery has always been within a few days.

Yep, I only order from the HMV site if I really want the item and can't get it anywhere else. Not very MSE of me but even if I can get it a few quid cheaper on HMV, I'll shop elsewhere...it can be a royal pain in the behind!
• Well my stuff finally came yesterday, and lo and behold, the game doesn't work! Don't know if it's the PS2 (the laser's about gone, it still works but not very well), or the game, so gonna try it on OH's PS2 to see.

I agree HMV online is quite poor. A few months back I tried to order the cd of quite an obscure trance band. The online site listed it as available, and it was cheap at about £9. After about 2 months, eventually HMV cancelled the order, saying that unfortunately they could not get hold of the item. (Yet its still advertised online)

Mysteriously, during this, two copies of the cd appeared in my local store but were around £4 more expensive....

• One of my friends is now going to avoid them after my experience, and I'll think twice about ordering from them again.

I've never had any problems with HMV. You just have to be patient if you are ordering from Jersey/Guernsey to get lower prices. It does say to allow 5-7 working days on the website.

I have never noticed any difference to Play.com except it sometimes takes about a day longer with HMV, they are still much better than Amazon's Super Saver delivery which can be a bit hit and miss as to how long they take to dispatch and it now has an additional delay to go though TNT post rather than directly through Royal Mail like it did before.
