I think Consumer direct would be the best place to check if taking it to your workplace constitutes business use.It seems unlikely, but its possible I suppose,.

And just goes to show again that you should keep your gob shut. You can always talk your way out of a refund/replacement and usually have to say very little to get it - don't give unnecessary details.

I would have thought that "for business purposes" would be interpreted as the owner of a business, say, a pub buying the TV for use in the bar or the owner of a betting shop buying it for his punters to watch the races.

If you bought it for use in the caravan I would consider that as domestic use so I would just POLITELY explain what the problem is and mention that it is used in your caravan, I wouldn't mention that you took it into work to watch in your breaks as that seems to have been misconstrued.

i recently had a customer try and attack me with the 'our staff have the right not to be abused' sign
I heard someone saying the other day that if a store displays such a sign, it is usually a good indication that you will get c**p service !

actually i was very calm when i said the word bull**** and never shouted at him. I hardly said anything to him as I realised what a jobsworth he was and there was no negotiation with him. i did not argue with him and just left the shop. i do not think he should have called me a stupid fat cow when other customers were around as he was not at all professional in this situation by calling customers. yes he was quoting the terms of argos sales, which i am sure a lot of people are not aware of. i certainly did not cause a disturbance in the store. i said very little and walked away.
i still stand by the fact he should not have called me a stupid fat cow in front of other customers. i certainly did not abuse him or shout at him. i was clearly unhappy at the situation and knew i was in a no way situation, which is why i left without an argument.

by the way i have took the tv back to another argos and got a refund!

and i am sure a lot of argos staff are not aware of the rules regarding businesses because i have spoke to someone who buys for their business from argos and who has took things back with a photocopied receipt as the original receipt is in their books!!!
    Just about to give up!

In your OP you described yourself as 'Furious', 'disgusted', 'storming out' and referred to changing your story to get a more satisfactory response from Argos - you can hardly be surprised that the responses have been as they are. You now say that you were very calm even though you still swore at him, which I think is confrontational and uncalled for, so I am not surprised that he lowered himself to your level.

As you now claim that you said very little to him, maybe that's the problem - he was obviously under the impression from what you said that the television had been used for business purposes, thus invalidating the warranty. Had you explained the situation more fully rather than swearing at the guy and assuming he was a jobsworth you might have been able to resolve the situation without all the nastiness. As it was, he was correct and you were wrong - I would leave the matter at that if I were you.

When did Argos staff get to decide what constitutes business use of a product? Is that defined in their T & Cs? And when did Argos get to override the Sale of Goods Act e.g. the seller being legally obliged to address the problem if goods are unfit or poor quality?
    Not even wrong
