Buying for business invalidates guarantee

Hi,

I bought a combi tv for occasional use in our caravan and when the caravan season is finished i take it in to work to watch now and again if there is something special on me and my friends want to watch in our breaks. anyway the combi has hardly been used but dvds are sticking and video tapes are getting chewed up. the combi tv is still under a year old so i took it back to argos. however i encountered a right jobsworth who said because i had took it into my work place it is classed as for business use and invalidates the guarantee. I was furious and told him so and said bull**** and said i was totally disgusted. anyway i stormed out of the shop in disgust (will take the item back to another argos very soon and change my story!!!). after i left the shop he called me a stupid fat cow as my mother heard him slagging me off to another sales assistant.

anyway i intend to write to argos about his attitude and what he called me

but this thread is to advise anyone with a business or office not to buy anything from Argos because it invalides the guarantee. how right this is i am not sure cos i have not had the time to look it up in the argos catalogue. i work in a hospital and i know a lot of things are bought from argos for raffles and out of ward funds for fax machines and other office equipment as it is cheaper than going through hospital suppliers who charge a fortune.
Just about to give up!

I'm sorry you've had trouble, but could I just say, remember the bloke just works for Argos, with Argos rules. Shop Assistants get loads of stick off unhappy customers, and customers don't have the right to shout and swear at them - just as he did not have the right to call you names.

Typical Argos - I had a dispute with Argos over a power tool that I bought from one of their branches that was completely different to that advertised on their website. I had made a considerable journey to collect it from the store and didnt realise it was not the right spec until I got back home. Contacted the store manager and he didn't want to know even though it was Argos's fault. Contacted their customer service at Stafford 01785710253 and within a day had a £10 voucher and the correct spec tool delivered to the house. Either give them a try or take it to another branch without mentioning that it was taken to work.
Its Ok defending Argos Staff and I appreciate they have rules to work to - but they can always use a bit of common sense surely.

Will you be telling them abut your attitude as well? You should treat others the way that you would like to be treated.

Common sense can rule when its your own business, or when you're the boss, but when you're a shop assistant, you do as you're told or risk losing your job. In any case - with or without common sense - customers have a right to complain, but no right to level abuse at staff.

I was about to say that!
It's a customer talks to me like crap, as far as I'm concerned they don't deserve any respect off me.

    Hi,

(will take the item back to another argos very soon and change my story!!!)

If you caused such a disturbance then the store you visited will certainly notify all the local stores - they know to look out for people like you.

Yes the customer service advisor shouldn't have called you a name but I'm guessing you were the cause. By being rude you have lost your "bargaining chip" to fair service.

There's pleanty of forums for bad customer service, but never any for bad customers - where's the justice??
