to be honest i dont see why we should even have to pay for one,i rarely ever watch the channels, they should make a telly without bbc1 and bbc2 and you should have the choice, i would certainly do that, where as as it stands thats all were paying the liscence for those two crap channels.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

You are not alone Peter. It is the only utility bill I really dont mind paying each year. Last year I got tickets to a recording of Later with Jools Holland and also the BBC Sessions recording of Ray Lamontagne at LSO St Lukes plus I have tuned in to all 7 main radio stations watched all tv channels (inc BBC Parliment) in the last month alone. My homepage is BBC and the iplayer gets used from time to time as well (which you need a TV licence to leagally use BTW) While it would be nice if it were all completely free, somebodys got to pay the wages of all the best personnel in the media and having the choice to not sit through adverts is a luxury most other countries do not have.0 -

What do you think pays for iPlayer development and the costs of making the programmes on iPlayer? :rolleyes:0 -

My problem with the TV Tax is that it is like the Poll Tax and does not take account of ability to pay. So a millionaire with mansion full of TVs pays the same as someone on the minimum wage.
If a millionaire and someone on benefits were to buy identical loaves of bread, they'd both pay the same too.
Perhaps it should be charged on pay-per-view? But I guess that wouldn't suit either, because chances are the millionaire businessman wouldn't be watching as much telly as the non-worker.0 -
I'm also reasonably content to pay the licence fee, just !! - the thread was about a person who hasn't paid and who gets caught then the courts "let her off" - I then read in the press today of someone who dare to leave the lid of their wheelie bin ajar and gets a hell of a fine and a criminal record.0

She was hauled before local magistrates recently and guess what - as she was unemployed the magistrates and I quote ".........decided to wipe out the fine and costs but told Mrs XXXXXXX to sit in the public gallery until lunchtime in lieu of payment"
It's a joke. Suggest we all refuse to buy a tv licence and get a free morning sitting in the comfort of our local court with our feet up.
Countrys gone to the dogs
Now that's disgraceful. Must have had one hell of a solicitor (paid for by us muggins tax payers obviously).0 -

Absolutely - like most things in this country, I'm penalised for getting a good education and career by having to subsidise those who didn't bother! :mad:0 -

Oh yeah - that has also got me steaming!
The government wants fortnightly collections of one wheelie bin. Yet doorstep recycling is still inadequate and there's no pressure whatsoever on big business to reduce unnecessary packaging. That's the real crime if you ask me.
It also got me thinking - how often do other people come along and put something in your bin when it's on the street? I see people running around with bags come bin day trying to find room in someone else's bin for the stuff that won't fit in their own. What if someone adds to your bin, leaving it ajar, and you get the criminal record??? It's a puzzler but I'm tempted to try it with my local councillor's house.0 -
Why should I pay for ITV (though everything I buy ) when I don't watch it - it's not fair !!
:rolleyes:0
