Watch TV without a licence - free for all !!

Read a report in my local newspaper this week regarding a lady who had been "fined" £175 (+ £60 costs) for using a TV without a licence, this was back in Sept. The lady had not paid the fine or any part payment whatsoever.

She was hauled before local magistrates recently and guess what - as she was unemployed the magistrates and I quote ".........decided to wipe out the fine and costs but told Mrs XXXXXXX to sit in the public gallery until lunchtime in lieu of payment"

It's a joke. Suggest we all refuse to buy a tv licence and get a free morning sitting in the comfort of our local court with our feet up.

And what does this lady learn from this experience, exactly?

I don't suppose she now has a shiny new TV licence? :)

to be honest i dont see why we should even have to pay for one,i rarely ever watch the channels, they should make a telly without bbc1 and bbc2 and you should have the choice, i would certainly do that, where as as it stands thats all were paying the liscence for those two crap channels.
    It`s getting to the point

Bloody hell, I got hauled in front of the beak years ago (and I mean at least 10 years ago) for not having a TV licence. Before I went to court I bought and backdated a TV licence - and ended up with a £300 fine!

    Madness.

Yep, I would rather have adverts in the middle of BBC shows than pay a licence fee.

Doctor Who is worth the licence fee alone imo. :)

My problem with the TV Tax is that it is like the Poll Tax and does not take account of ability to pay. So a millionaire with mansion full of TVs pays the same as someone on the minimum wage.

The licensing poeple sent my wife a letter stating that she could be prosecuted because we bought a tv in tesco using her clubcard and her details were passed to them.

we already have a license though it is only in my name, it is at the same address.

I am waiting for the knock on the door.

I'm going to be pretty lonely here but I am all for the TV licence. The beeb progs are often far better than commercial channels and I don't have to watch 10 to 15 minutes of ads each hour, when I do go over to ITV etc the ads are aften better than the progs.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
