Contact your ISP. They may provide it free of charge or for a nominal fee.0

Who is your ISP?0

- Google is your friend, use it :rolleyes:0

There's a list of such providers here:

with http://www.dynip.com/ being one of the simplest as i understand it, you run their client in your taskbar and it syncs your isp assigned ip to theirs giving you a fixed ip.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
How would that help as the connecting IP address to the programmers server would be the one provided by his ISP?
OTOH, perhaps the programmer could try doing the job properly so it's not an issue.0 -

Is this a work Internet connection or home?
Is this a public IP Address i.e Internet IP or LAN IP?Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
wow thanks for the responses this is on a computer at work which uses the Internet which is connected via a network. One computer is upstairs and the other downstairs they both use the same Internet connection so I'm not sure if it is the same IP or not?? lol
So these companies you have kindly listed will act as a fixed IP ??Help me to help you :santa2:0 -
at home, your router will hold the main IP for the home network. At work, you may have issues with a firewall. Check with your network admin at work if you need a fixed IP.
The sites above will work ok on a home network, and should offer setup advice to alter router settings if necessary.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer

Using a dynamic dns service won't help in this instance though, since the problem is that a system he wants to access is locked down to specific IP addresses.
A ddns service would work if he wanted to access something at home from elsewhere, and his IP kept changing.
Can't you ask the admin of the server if he can add multiple ips or even a range (or part of a range)? IP range + ident?
I guess you could run a proxy on a shell or something, and get him to add the shell's IP.
Alternatively, if you can get a fixed IP at work and the machine at work is left on you could access whatever it is via that machine?
And yes, 99% of the time both pcs at home will have the same wan-side ip address, which will be the address of the wan port on your router. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
