When I received my OptioMX I was shocked to find the owners manual missing! However, there is a full owners manual on the CD-ROM included.......... but it's 146 pages long!!

Anyone know a cheap ink & paper supplier?!!!

The free one from Comet comes with a case, by the way. It's an IT Works 3045. Worth the sign up to get it for free, even if you do choose to buy another camera.

  • Got my Optio yesterday - I love it! Smaller than I thought, so will be rethinking the case issue.

www.nomatica.com have some nice ones - and cheap tripods too.

    Or look at this one.

They've also got the Premier DC-3A30 for £80 (inc VAT) and that's a more standard styled camera with 10x optical zoom and 3MP. It's the original manufacturer's version of various cameras, including the Rollei DP-3210 and Toshiba PDR- M700 (this has the exact same spec lens but it's branded as Canon). You can even upgrade the firmware to make it think it's the Toshiba and add a high-speed continuous shooting and fully manual focus modes.

And indeed this is the camera that anyone looking at the Pentax in the thread title should be buying instead. It's leagues and leagues ahead in quality just down to the lens.

interesting perspective is that 100ASA 35mm roll represents 18MP

Based on the particle size of the emulsion on the film surface this is true. However, you are limited by most modern developing processes which use digital scanning.
  • Just got a nice case from Boots for Advantage card points - 1299/£12.99.

I have a 6 ink Canon Photo Printer i965 2400x4800 I use it for photos up to A4. It also takes CDs, DVDs and 4x6". It is about 2 years old. I still use the orginal cartridges. When the printer was new I ordered some refills inks from Select a font :

    http://www.compatible-inkjet-cartridges.co.uk/section.php/11/1/

This is ink in a bottle. For 6 and 9 ink Canon Printers this outfit is very good. I've not used the Epson stuff they sell but the Canon inks are great. If you want to save money sign up to their newsletter and wait for the 50% off sale and VAT free offers. Mail them to see what is planned. I got the inks that I bought for £75 a month later for my brother for £45! For cheap Canon printers Morgan computers had some refurbs for under £80!

The Canon's pump out ink in 2pl (pico litre) droplets so YOU MUST get microfiltered inks. The stock 3 colour inks sold at PC World et al are not suitable (as my father in law found out!)

For refil kits (caps, syringes etc) I got my stuff here:

    http://www.eurojet-cartridges.co.uk/refill_model/0/Inkjet_Refill_Kits.htm

Eurojet offer good value black and 3 colour inks for non photo and some cheaper photo printers Free P&P! (Their web site is a bit poor with Firefox but useable!)

    http://www.eurojet-cartridges.co.uk/refill_model/0/Inkjet_Refill_Kits.htm

If you are new to refilling, take your time, do the refill in the kitchen with newspaper around the first few times. Read and understand at least 3 how to guides on the internet FOR YOUR MODEL before you starts.

For good photo paper Illford and Canon papers are sold on offer by Morrison and Ebuyer. I think Tesco have some offers in store. I got a load of 4x6" Ilford for £2.50 + it was BOGOF a few months back! For cheaper paper get the Viking direct own brand stuff, even the thin stuff is OK for most non key roles.

Camera cases for Compacts pop down to Asda (don't laugh) they had decent semi-pro cases with a strap for under £7!!
