Pentax digi camera at ebuyer £99!

This bargain was posted over at RPoints about a week ago by hoiwei. It was supposed to be a one day deal but seems to be still on. I can't find any mention of it on this forum but please accept my apologies if its already been posted.

You can also add an SD card 256mb for £1!

The kit comes with a rechargeable battery and charger - a 2nd battery on ebay is under £10.

I ordered this and it arrived yesterday. Its very different but I love it :T and wanted to tell you all it was still available and a super camera!

PS:I've searched the web and from the reviews I have read the camera is rated pretty highly - if you use a hi-speed memory card with it, the camera works at its best.

I have never seen such an UGLY camera.

I would not expect to pay more than £99 for a 3MP camera.

There are some that will will say it is the quality of the lens that counts, but for me I want the most megapixels so I can edit the pictures i take and they will still look great on A4 size prints.

I would rather go for this 8MP camera for not much more dosh, and it is the same as a Rollei :D

  • For me, a 10x optical zoom more than makes up for raw pixels. I'd rather take the picture I want than have to cut and crop to get the bit I wanted.
  • Yep, the optical zoom is great. You'll get much better resolution with this than you will with an 8MP camera without optical zoom.

Think about it... say you take a pic on the 8MP camera and have to cut away 90% to get the bit you want. You're left with a pic that is effectively 0.8MP. With the 10x optical zoom, you'll get the same picture, no cropping needed, and it'll be 3.2MP.... four times as many.

EDIT: also, the size of the lens is very important, as more light can get in which reduces blurring and gives you crisper brighter images. This camera has a nice big lens aperture.
  • Yep! I'm really happy with it - size isn't everything :p !
It's very easy to use and feels really comfy in your hand. It has more weight than most digi's - and feels like its real instead of feeling like I'm holding a toy camera. I don't use a digi camera often (I prefer film) but I can see me using this alot more than my old one. The video facility and sound recording may come in handy too.
I next to never print out piccys but if I did I certainly wouldnt be using max pixels - there is no need for what I want. The optical zoom is fab! My last camera only had digital and the difference is amazing. Hubby bought a new camera about a month ago - at least 4megapixels I think at about half the price and he is green with envy - he wishes he'd waited.
Even if this camera hadn't come up, I would've only bought one around the 3m mark at the most - my priority would have been optical zoom and rechargeability.

They've also got the Premier DC-3A30 for £80 (inc VAT) and that's a more standard styled camera with 10x optical zoom and 3MP. It's the original manufacturer's version of various cameras, including the Rollei DP-3210 and Toshiba PDR- M700 (this has the exact same spec lens but it's branded as Canon). You can even upgrade the firmware to make it think it's the Toshiba and add a high-speed continuous shooting and fully manual focus modes.

That's not a camera, it's a fridge. Ugly, ugly, ugly!!!!!!!

Do you really want to look like a 'tourist from overseas' going round Buck Palace!

Apart from that it seems quite useful....but it's still damned ugly.

Have I mentioned how ugly it looks?
  • Thansk for that. I need a camera for my 16 year old. What else can you suggest in that price range?
    Cheers
  • To be fair to pentax, the optio mx was the first attempt at a hybrid camera which bridged the gap between digicams (which can take v low resolution films) and digital video cameras (which can take quite bad still pics). The MX was supposed to be alright at both still and video's (hence its rather video inspired shape...)
