When I checked S5000 on kelkoo, it only came up with one match at £179 plus delivery, saying it was a 4MP camera, so I'm a bit confused...
Hi sorry, yeh the current model is S5500 (4mp) and i believe theres an even more recent update out now too. i know Novatech stock it.

Im selling my S5000 on ebay next week if this pentax optio mx thats turning up 2moro is good enough. I dont find myself doing all that much still photography any more and i have a bunch of lenses i dont need either. I cant rant enough about how good the S5000/S5500 etc. are for photography, i just want video and cant afford to keep both.

any Q's about it im happy to help

    Try this one.
  • please if your looking for a plain 3mp camera then you probably shouldnt choose this one. get a fujifilm s5000 or somthing of that nature.
No, I would be in the market for a 3mp camera, but there would be no way I'd pay over £150 for it

This thread is about a digital camera for £99, and that's what I want, a good 3mp digital camera for under £100. Instead of somebody recommending a Fuji S-5000 or S-5500, what we need is somebody recommending a great digital camera for £99 or less ;)

At the risk of taking the thread even further off topic, our digital camera at work has a docking station. You sit the camera on it, it recharges it and feeds the photos to the PC - is this standard, or an unnecessary luxury, or a great bonus with a digital camera?
Thanks to all who post constructively.

docking station does no more really than the USB lead, transfers files from the camera to the PC and vice versa if necessary.

The Pentax 33WR is also a £99 camera and I'd rather have this than the Optio MX. It's less awkward to hold, quicker in start up, focussing etc and still 3mp. I think it's discontinued, as is the 43WR that I have but I would definitely get another 43WR if I could.

  • Yes, they both appear to have been discontinued...

  • If you're after a 3MP camera, just sign up to Onetel with Comet. They'll give you one for free. Comet staff are quick to tell you that you can cancel Onetel 10 days after the sign up, before they've even switched you over.

You can pick up a good, inexpensive 3mp digital camera now, as many manufacturers are discontinuing their older 3mp cameras in favour of newer higher-spec models. The older 3mp models still take as good photos as they ever did of course ;) , but can often be picked up at a fraction of their original selling price.

Take this Olympus mju 300 at 7dayshop for £89 plus £3.95 p+p. This is a compact, metal-bodied 'point-and-shoot' camera from a top brand name, it comes with a 3x optical zoom and 3.2MP resolution. It comes with a rechargeable Li-ion battery (which is unusual for cameras under £100 - most use AA) and also has a remote control to operate the shutter (no more setting the self-timer and running into position for self-pics!) This is not bad value for a camera that originally sold for £200. On the down-side, though, this camera might just be a little too lightweight for traditional camera users who like a chunky feel and lots of manual controls to their equipment; also this camera uses XD cards which can be more expensive to buy than equivalent SD cards. Other good clearance cameras at the moment are the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10 at £109 or the Nikon Coolpix 5200 at £129 (or only £109 if you are prepared to buy the refurbished model again from 7dayshop.

It's difficult to make an exact recommendation without knowing how the camera is to be used (snapshots, detailed close-up or video, etc, etc) but keep your eyes peeled and you're sure to find a bargain!
  • interesting perspective is that 100ASA 35mm roll represents 18MP
