I have never seen such an UGLY camera.

I would not expect to pay more than £99 for a 3MP camera.

There are some that will will say it is the quality of the lens that counts, but for me I want the most megapixels so I can edit the pictures i take and they will still look great on A4 size prints.

I would rather go for this 8MP camera for not much more dosh, and it is the same as a Rollei :D

So you would rather have more mp and crap images rather than less mp and a good quality picture ?
  • I've got to agree with Deanos on this one, more MP means very little if you've a rubbish system supporting it. Digital camera's are FAR more sensitive to the various chromatic aberations a lens system can create (purple fringing etc.) and a 8mp one especially so. There's an element of getting what you pay for and personally I'd put more into the rest of the camera than the sensor. The average snapper rarely prints out at A4 and will have to pay more for memory and computing power to support those whopping file size the 8MP cam will create.

As always its a case of horses for courses, but I'd always advise caution around the idea that higher MP is automatically better....

If you put a bentley badge on the front of a skoda, it'd still be a skoda...

please if your looking for a plain 3mp camera then you probably shouldnt choose this one. get a fujifilm s5000 or somthing of that nature.

IF HOWEVER you want a 3mp camera with decent optical zoom that does good MPEG4 @ 640x460 then this is the cheapest you can get!

The only other digital cameras that can achieve this video quality + zoom , cost around the £280+ mark. The only functionallity that it really lacks is image stabilisation but what do you expect at this price?

one thing to note. you really need a x40 speed SD card as a minimum. You can pickup cheap x66 ones on ebuyer.
    :)
  • When I checked S5000 on kelkoo, it only came up with one match at £179 plus delivery, saying it was a 4MP camera, so I'm a bit confused...

can you zoom while using it in movie mode?

yes you can though the focusing is a bit sluggish to catch up, I've had one of these for a while now and got mine for £156 it is ok for pics great for video being 640x480 res, but in general the camera is very slow, I have a 43WR & an *istD and you can really notice the length of time it takes to move between functions, modes, focussing etc etc. Not a camera for the quick snapshot! It is also awkward to hold, I have given up with the silly 1950's looking cine-handle. The buttons are in an awkward position too and means you can't delete or change modes in mid shot so to speak. However, the zoom is enormous, & along with a good brand name, the camera is worth the money.

    Hiya
I read a couple of reviews (can't find them now  ) that also comment on the camera being slow. However, they also say this can be sorted out by using a hi-speed memory card such as a x66 Kingston. Hope this helps ;)
