If you say that the reason your child goes there is because of the 100% pass rate at the 11+, then I would say that some of the children in the school are pushed beyond their natural abilities.
the 11+ was intented to pick the top 20%. Not 100% ; so I wonder how on earth they achieve that kind if result is not by concentrating on exam techniques rather than letting them be children.

Because I suspect that all the children who go to the school are the top 20% (nationally speaking).

Bright children learn very quickly and so don't need to spend loads of time concentrating on exam technique. They just get it. And very quickly.

Maybe because you believe education is primarily about results ('academic outcomes')?
At the risk of repeating myself there, I think you are barking at the wrong tree.
    Natalie believes so. not borntobefree...
Yes they are . My DD1's school has 100% pass rate on the 11+ , most of the local state schools have approx 10 kids out of 60-70 that pass . All I know is that education wise I am giving her and will give DD2 as well , the best start in life educationally .

Personally, I was never arguing it was wrong, just questioning whether it was worth the money.

    Yes it is.

I don't think that is true. I think they are important but I believe that kids should develope an ability to get along with everyone and not live segregated lives where they only mix with a narrow segment of society. I certainly don't think kids should be brought up to look down at "chavs", whatever that means.

Well that is a big question. Only one you can answer of course.

It is one of those questions that only the benefit of hindsight can answer factually. So 'it depends'. On the school. On the children in question. On luck. On your expectations. On your financial circumstances. On your values. Etc.

I know of people who will not send their daughters to private school because they believe they will end up being SAHM and thus (to a degree) 'waste' their education. (Don't shoot the messenger!)

What an awful and patronising statement.
I can tell you that it is far from true

Again, I know someone who works in a grammar school. She support the kids that managed to scrape by but weren't up to the level.
And your ability to do well in 1 exam when you are 10/11 is not necessarily a sign of brightness.

ah now to look at the flip side.........are state school children not able to mix with more affluent children? surely state children are only mixing with a segment of society.
And to be honest, I am not that worried if my 4 year old is not exposed to some of the things I hear about in state schools. And yes, I know that comment makes me sound like a snob, but I don't care. It means I am doing the best I can to protect my daughter.

The 100% pass rate is a bonus for me personally , but my daughter has been at this school since 2 yrs of age , she started in the nursery and I just loved the family feel there is to the school . You can't force a kid to learn if they don't want to , my daughter just happens to like school work and happens to be thriving where she is .
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
