We are not here to judge, just offer any advice or support we can. The OP wants to send her child to private school and there is nothing wrong with considering the financial implications, indeed it is the best thign to do,

Excuse me I don't need a lecture, nor do I need anyone to apologise for me as I'm merely giving my opinion. You say we are not here to judge and then conclude that sending a child to a private school is the best thing to do. Well if that's not judging I don't know what is. Furthermore, you've given no evidence to back up your opinions, just shouted really loudly with large letters. Well I'm sorry I disagree, I don't believe that sending a child to a private school is the best thing to do period, and especially if you can't actually afford it.

    lol:rotfl:

It's OK to advocate a system that unjustly perpetuates advantage to a large number of rich kids and WE HAVE TO apologise for being rude just because we disagree.:rotfl:

Oh my days alive! Basically, we all have different ideas about education. The OP thinks that she might want to send her child to private school. This appears to have sparked a debate about the validity of spending money on school fees. Some comments have been rude, and not required.
At the end of the day, the OP wanted financial advice. I would advice, OP, that you repost on another board where you might get further suggestions.

That is a massively sweeping generalisation, and completely unjust. Well done.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Over on the Mortgage Fee board we argue till the cows come home about ISAs vs POYM (paying off your mortgage), on the pension board it's Pensions Vs ISAs (stocks & shares), go to the housing board - it's whether there is going to be a massive crash. There is nothing wrong with abit of sparky debate IMHO and it's quite a valid question to ask whether private schools are actually worth the money, or whether people just believe it to be so. And there are plenty of people who see Private Education as just plain wrong, so why do people want to stifle debate? We are all entitled to our opinions. If I started a thread about how to finance the purchase of a gas guzzling 4by4 I would expect to get quite a few barbed comments, not just polite suggestions. You can't run away from the fact that private education is contentious.:D

It's the truth and no one can deny it. Why on earth would everyone be advocating such a huge finacial sacrifice if it wasn't so? If you buy into the private sector you are trying to buy an advantage for your kids at the cost of everyone elses, particularly the poorest kids in society. So if you find a few people who don't want to support you in your pursuit why would you be surprised?

I completely agree with the bit in bold above, but I do not like the way that some posters think the OP was just trying to stir it up! And anti-private education posters have not really asked this question on the whole, more defended the state system .Which, as far as I can tell, no one has criticised!

"unjustly perpetuates advantage to a large number of rich kids"
    a) the kids are not all rich
    b) it is NOT a "huge" financial sacrifice to everybody
    c) why is private education to the detriment of state education?
    d) I have not asked for "support in my pursiut", adn I do not think the OP was either.

Ah ha hence why I said "on the whole", I knew it was asked somewhere, but not all the posters seemed keen to enquire! :rotfl:
