thanks miz i took the advice and used it well ....well i was hoping to get into this course but i have been thrown a curve ball a very nice curve ball but a curve ball all the same ...well this is the new state of play and the decision i have to make is between being offered a part time course with 240 credits towards my degree ....or a full time position straight into year two of the old degree or a straight acceptance into the new honours degree at year one .....so a nice quandry but a quandry all the same ...

the car reached dizzying heights of 58.8 mpg today so exciing stuff there ...

and worryingly my son has dumped his gf of 3 years so is upset but relieved...

I was keeping my eye out of this - was too late to tell you not to worry...

Umm - I can't remember your current job status - can you work and study - are the hours flexible?

I did my degree part time whilst working full time and it was both fun and hard work but certainly doable - but I had a 9 to 5 job which of course you don't...

hi peb thanks for the imput hmmm thinking now..yes i can study whilst at work which will make life easier for me ...if i did the course part time i would have to pay for it full time it's free so money is becomes an issue there .... full time i would be at uni tues.wed.thur from 10 am till 1pm with a work placement once a week which my current work would cover so kinda do-able

It sounds like you are swaying towards full time? I think on this one, you've just got to follow your heart - you have made a lot of sacrifices for others in the past, and it's time to do what's right for you, I reckon.

NO elantan it does not make sense!

One of my friends felt that way and although she has an HNC (equivalent of a first year of a degree course) she decided to do a year then start with OU - more time, more money!

Honestly having held down work and study you need to keep it as simple as possible.

Think of it this way - all your years of experience and expertise are worth that year.

But if full time is free (Scotland I take it!) and you can work as well then it seems worthwhile to me.

oooo nice decision to have to think about though. I think the full time thing sounds good but just have a good think and do what's best for you.

I would go with the shorter course - that extra year adds a lot on, and if you are getting tired towards the end of the course, that extra year will be loooooong!

If you have the choice of funded full time seize it with both hands!! Part-time is doable but much harder I think - it is longer, more "bitty" and you might feel less part of the cohort of students. Even though you will still be working around the full-time you won't need to find the extra for fees and you will be finished much sooner.

And unless there is a difference between the two courses that is important to you I would definitely opt for starting in year 2. They wouldn't offer that if they didn't think your experience and knowledge were up to it - and it suggests that year 1 might be rather tedious for you. Also you get to your goal a year earlier!

Whatever you decide it is a great result - they must be dead keen to have you! :T:T

thank you all very much for your thoughts and wishes ...please keep them coming

well i have sat up and read both courses to see which one i prefer and then did a big huge pros and cons list and i know it is going against the grain but it looks like the 4 year option is the way forward for me for a few reasons ...
    1) it will allow me to get used to the type of writting assignments required of me by the tutors and ease my way into the course
    2) i wont have to hit the ground running like i would if i went straight into second year
    3) it looks like a better more in depth course each unit is 20 points instead of the 10 which is the old course route
    4) the old course has gained a bit of a bad reputation lately within in the sector that i currently work in
    5) it will be a less stressful year for me in my first year as i will have a bit of a clue about what the tutors are going to be talking about therefore allowing me to concentrate on my weaker skills like punctuation, spelling, grammar,IT

but then again i dont know if this is because i had it in my head i would be grateful just to get accepted so was thinking i would be going down the four year route from the begining

but the bad point is it will take me a year longer to get the qualification but somehow i feel like i would be cheating if i did it in 3 instead of 4 years ...having read the course content and the other literature that i have it seems the three year degree course (which i am being offered entry into year two) although is a degree the thought process of employers is currently they are looking for the honours year as they feel students are qualifying but not having a clue about the subject matter on ground level hence the reason it has been given an overhaul this year ....now if i was to leave it a year i would get into year two of the new degree which would allow me to save etc etc but i think then i might find a reason not to do it (money etc)

i would say i am about 70% of the way there in making my mind up but not fully there so please if you have anything to ask or add feel free to as sometimes it is nice to look at it from another perspective ...

ohh and today is the day i find out how much i owe my son and whether we will be going to the same uni ...now how much fun would that be ...they wouldnt know what hit them lol
