Spending Diary of a Compulsive Eater

I have decided that I am going to try a new tactic in the fight against my eating disorder and that is to deal with it by proxy. I am going to focus on my spending rather than my eating with the hope that the eating will fall into place as I go.

Due to my compulsive eating disorder, it is not uncommon for me to spend £20 a day on unecessary food. This has contributed heavily over the last ten years to a nearly £10,000 debt. This has to stop.

With the support of my DH (who is also sticking to the new plan), I am going to become Mrs Frugal-Tight-Wad and instead get my kicks from saving money instead of spending it. It's going to be a hard road but I'm feeling optimistic.

I usually shop in Sainsburys but those days are gone so today I have spent in Aldi:

Cherry tomatoes 62p
Milk 74p
Lettuce 65p
Apples 99p
Mini hob nobs 89p (shhh)
Almond slices 79p (shut up)
Cadbury Variety Mix Bag £1.99 (say nothing)

:rotfl:

Anyway, as you can see I did buy some unecessaries there but the idea is that it will last me the rest of the week. Now, to most people that is a lot but to me it is NOT AT ALL so I am pleased with myself.

hey i can walk into a shop to buy a loaf of bread and come out £50 lighter so to me what youve spent is not bad ...who are we to judge... go for it
  • I am so with you on this one!! I buy food at work and it sits in a drawer for ages cause i wasnt as hungry as i thought. I always end up spending about a tenner when i just popped in the shop to get something small and i always thought i was alone! Im not fat but have put on weight since this has been going on and i dont always eat the food in one setting i just like to buy items i dont need.
Ive found becoming more aware of what im doing and how much money im wasting like this has helped me. i deff recommend a spending diary. Some treats occasionally are ok if you deprive yourself completley you will go mad.

Good luck i will watch with interest

Good luck to you LavenderLily. I have also replaced one compulsion with another recently (I don't go out at lunchtime anymore and buy unnecessary food.....I stay in and log on here :D ). I definitely spend and eat less, but suffer similar withdrawal symptoms if I don't get my fix.

I am sure you will get a lot of support on here.

Good luck! As some people on here know, I have a problem with chocolate, and I also know that when you focus on giving that up, you just end up wanting it more, so end up eating far more of the stuff you are trying to resist (and in my case it is carrier bags of the stuff at a time :o )......so I think the alternative stance on it is a very healthy way of addressing the issue.

Good luck! I'm also battling an eating disorder, so can understand where you're coming from x

  • I'm with you on this one. I did the "what have you spent today" thread for a one month period over Feb/March, and almost ALL of my personal spending was on food for myself! In fact, I spent more on junk food for myself than I did clothes. I'm joining weight watchers tonight so even more of a reason to stop spending money on food.

    Hello,

I'm the OP's DH. She has asked me to write what I spend daily here too! I also eat much more than I need to and would like to cut down and am also doing it by spending less.

This is easier for me because I am at work all day, except that my office is next to the canteen and the smell of cooked breakfast is a hard one to resist. though I haven't cracked yet. (only moved to this office in our new building a couple weeks ago).

So without further ado to todays spend.

£2 to the tea fund for two weeks tea and coffee.

good luck lillylav ;) you have got to have a little treat now & then.. it just helps things go by that bit smoother..I always, well when i have the pennies, buy myself a marsbar or some other choc bar for work.....ok i really should buy in bulk at netto's homebrands or somewhere for those little daily treats, to save a massive amount over the month, but, im terrible, if i have a big bulkload of treats, they go twice as quick.......anyway, you aint doing wrong treating yourself, especially the hobnobs luv them...good luck....enjoy, but find a cheaper way if pos ;)
