What a day!
I managed to photograph some of the kids clothes, but can't find the lead to connect it to the computer so can't download anything.
Hubby has just rung and announced that he needs the insurance documents for the car as the alternater (sp?) caught fire and the car was smoking. Good news is that the car didn't go up in flames and the fire bridgade disconnected the battery to be on the safe side. Thank god for insurance and that DH was safe!
Good news though is that I have signed DH up to Juicy Brains Panel and I have counted the money in the demi-john and we have £29 in there so will be banked on Tuesday.
Also redeemed £2 from Lightspeed today, so once the clears I can transfer the money across from Paypal.
Hope everyone's Sunday is going okay0 -
Good morning (just) all,
Hope that everyone is enjoying their Bank Holiday today?
Well after yesterday's fiasco, I have managed to upload all the photo's and even managed to list them on E-bay, here's to a profitable week next week.
DH's car was sucessfully recovered and the engineer is due to inspect it tomorrow, it's going to be a pain in the @rse as there will be a lot of rushing about in the morning...DH is at work for 7.30 and DS is at pre-school for 9, DH trip is 3/4 of an hour away and the rush hour traffic here can be horrendous! Hopefully he'll get a courtesy car 'til his car's ready.
I have done a count up and I have roughly £5 left from last week, so I am very pleased with myself, my aim this week is to have even more left. With it being a four day week, it shouldn't be a problem.
Have a good day eveyone.0 -
Morning Everyone,
It appears that DH’s car is not covered under the policy as it is classed as a mechanical failure. We are not amused to say the least and feel the More Than should have checked the policy wording before agreeing to recover the vehicle at a cost of £60+ and storing it in a yard where they charge £20 per day, plus the charge of delivering it to the local garage £60+ all not including VAT.
We are now going to attempt to try and recover the charges from More Than.
Yesterday wasn’t quite the NSD as anticipated as the children used some of their money out of their money boxes for some ice cream whilst we were at the park.
Today is going to be a different story, DS has the doctors this afternoon as he has to have his pre-school booster and MMR and then we are off to the local airfield to watch the gliders and let DS ride about on his bike…so no spending required.
First off to do some housework.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning all,
Haven’t updated for a few days as things have been very hectic in the Purpletea household.
DH’s car was recovered to the local garage and the mechanic there found that the alternator blowing was as a result of the fuel filter cap not being screwed on properly when the car had it’s last service at the Ford garage. This fell off causing all sorts of problems that is currently going to result in about £3000 of work being done to get the car road worthy again.
As this is now the case, More Than have backed down and agreed to fix the car but will not replace the fuel filter cap?!? No idea why but as that is only about £50, DH is reasonably happy with the outcome. DH now has a courtesy car being delivered today, which will be good as there will not be any rushing about in the morning again from next week.
On the DF side of things, Tuesday ended up not being a NSD as anticipated as I bought my SIL a present off E-bay for her birthday but Wednesday and Thursday were no spend days instead. The only thing I spent money on yesterday was food shopping which as I didn’t get chance to order it online cost £89.25  But I did get things that were needed that we were getting low on and didn’t just buy something just because it was there, so am quite pleased with myself on that side of things
Today I have to find something to dress DS up in on Monday; he has to be some sort of animal…I had thought of putting a white t-shirt on him with the words ‘I’m a monkey, well that’s what my parents say’ but didn’t think that would go down well lol. Therefore some money is going to get spent, but not as much if I can help it.
Have a good day and I will try and update later.0 -
Another day has begun and I am feeling rather deflated to say the least.
After realising that we had overspent last month by a major amount, we borrowed some money from a family member to clear this month’s overdraft. Thankfully the person we have borrowed it from isn’t too concerned if and when we pay it back, not ideal but in the short term a life saver.
So, I have renewed the Home Insurance policy and have saved us £15 per month there from the beginning of June and just need to cancel the DD for the other company.
DH has been signed up to the following:- Pigsback
- Valued Opinions
- Juicy Brains Panel
- Pureprofile
My E-bay items haven’t sold yet; one item has three watchers so I am hoping that sells and that someone takes an interest on what else I have for sale.
My plan for this coming week is as follows:- Make sure DH keeps up with the above
- Keep up with daily clicks and surveys etc
- No un-necessary spending
- Keep up with the packed lunches for DH
- Keep up with the drinking less – not going to good this past week but new start from next week
- Order food shopping online and look out for deals
- I am going to only use £20 this week for everything for myself and the kids
- NSD Monday and Thursday
I have plenty of housework to keep me going next week and I am hanging out the washing to dry rather than use the tumble dryer as the weather is so nice at the moment.0 -
Morning all,
After feeling rather deflated yesterday, we went and visited DH’s family as they haven’t seen the kids for a few weeks and they have a huge garden that DS loves running about in.
Whilst we were there they offered to loan us some money to clear any debts that we have and to cut a long story short and not to bore you to death they offered us £10k to clear the Capital One Card no interest added on top.
DH isn’t too sure if we should take the offer and after initially rejecting the offer, we have told them that we’d talk about it and let them know but it has been agreed that should we decide to take up this offer we’d set up a direct debit to ensure that they get an agreed amount each month.
We both feel rather bad about things as we borrowed money from my mum the other day to clear the overdraft as we’re getting close to going over it again, thankfully she’s not too fussed when she gets that back but I think we’ll have to discuss with her how we are going to repay her.
Over night, I have sold two items on E-bay and this morning I have sold another item so am rather happy about that, unfortunately nothing else sold but I have other clothes that can get photographed and put on E-bay with the hope that they’ll sell.
I have also done my transfer from Paypal, so that’ll be £50 to go in to the account once it clears.
DH gave me two £2 coins this morning, so they have been squirreled away in to my terramundi and I also found a £1 coin whilst we were at the park yesterday so that has gone in to the terramundi too.0 -
Morning,
I asked DH this morning whether he has had any thought on loaning the money to clear the card and he said that he wants to be sure where our money is going first.
So my task today is to go through the finances again and show him our current position and the position we will be in a month once the credit card is paid off and we start with the lower payment to his family. We will effectively be £200 better off a month.
Apart from that DS is at pre-school this morning and DD and I are at playgroup and we will possibly go to the park this afternoon.
Have a good day and I'll update later.0 -
After spending all morning sorting out the finances so that DH can understand my system for the figures, he has finally agreed that we should go ahead with the loan from his family.
He's still not happy with the amount that is coming out of the account and tonight we are going to go through everything and see where we fele we can cut back even more than we are doing now.
I have told him that this loan thing won't be forever and he has said that he feels bad that we are having to resort to this, in my opinion as long as we can eat and the mortgage and bills get paid and the kids are happy that'll do for me.
I just need to persuade him now to cancel the credit cards or at least give them to me so that he can't spend on them.
Am off to the bank this afternoon to sort the Captial One card out and get rid of it.
I am still going to do the surveys etc and make sure that he does them too and also E-baying sa it might not be much money but if it means that it can be saved up so that once a month we can have a treat then I am going to do what I can.0 -
I think DH had a bit of a LBM last night, I’ve heard that it takes some blokes a long time before it hits so it’s about time, as I had mine ages ago.
Anyway, we went through everything on the finances spreadsheet and have come to the conclusion that in order to be able to pay this loan off and avoid using the overdraft we are going to be very strict with ourselves, we know that we now have approximately £300 a month left after everything’s been paid, out of that we need to have £100 for the loan, which leaves us with £200 or £100 each for the month.
I have told DH that I don’t want him spending on the credit cards to which he has agreed, however he won’t cancel or cut up the credit cards as they may be needed in an emergency and in his own words ‘if it then takes us forever to pay them off it would be worth it if we needed that money’…approximate total limit is £50K over four cards.
I have also told DH that he needs to stop with the just nipping to Tesco’s to get some wine, steak etc…I told him that I have stopped and if we are to get stable financially he needs to as well, he agreed.
He wanted to stop with the flying, but as he only pays £24 landing fees when he does fly as opposed to £136 per flight and then £24 landing fees on top, I told him he could for the short time keep going. He only flies once every two weeks as it is but that will come out of his half of the £200.
I am going to keep an eye on how much gets spent on the shopping each week and am going to total it up in four weeks time when DH gets paid again and see where I can possibly cut down on it. There is market in the next town on a Thursday and Saturday, there is a veg stall there that I used to buy all my veg from when I worked over there but as it’s 20 min car ride, I’m not too sure of it’s economical to do that.
He has also agreed to take the kids to his mum’s one weekend for the day so that I can do a car boot and get rid of some junk.
Good news as well, we have been told that we have a month to ourselves before we start paying back on the loan.
On to today…the kids and I are baking cakes, so no money is going to get spent today. I also have housework to do (booooo!!!)0 -
Morning all,
What a blooming awful day it is today, oh well the sunshine was nice while it lasted I guess.
DH got paid today :T and although not as much as last month, mainly because he hasn’t put his expenses in which he knows he needs to get on top of, things aren’t too bad I guess money wise. Due things the other day we realise that we need to play around with the figures by cutting back on things during the week and substituting things for other things. I know many of you will nod in agreement as this is something that you do on a regular basis but this is something that DH has finally realised so the finances will take some tweaking.
I re-listed some of the kids’ clothes on E-bay and so far one of them has a watcher and will look at photographing the other stuff later.
We had pizza last night for dinner and no we didn’t order one as it would have cost us £11 or so in total as we’d have bought side orders as well; we used one that we had in the freezer and it was DH’s idea!
Food shopping bill for this week cost £67.26 and I ordered it online and used one of the free delivery codes from the discount codes board, shopping is being delivered this morning. I have remembered that there is a veg shop on the high street, I’ve used it a couple of times and as it would save a car trip I think that I will give them another go from next week. We have two butchers’ shops as well, but one is decidedly dodgy as they have second hand books to the right as you walk through the door and you never see anyone in there, the other butchers shop is fantastic but expensive and is always busy, so think I’ll stick with Tesco’s for the time being.
Tonight I think we might have spaghetti bolognaise as we’ve not had that for a while and it is cheap and cheerful and I can make the sauce this afternoon and rope DS in to helping me and will also give the kids a meal for tomorrow.
I also want to try and get some savings started now we don’t have any left and even if it’s only £10 a month it’s better than nothing but not too sure how or where to start on that one, I think some investigating will need to be done.0
