Basically, this is how we started to budget. We learned that our endowments were not going to pay the mortgage and we were going to have a large leftover amount to pay. We could pay an extra £500 with our deal and I suggested to dh that we do this. At our then level of spending we couldn't do it so this is what I did:
Took the extra £500 and paid it to the building society at the start of the month and then we lived on what was left.
What went? The second car, going out, a holiday, sky, giving expensive presents, new clothes, in fact, everything that was not essential.
We decided that when the money ran out we would go without. However, we made sure that the money didn't run out. It was hard to do, it did get easier and when we paid our mortgage it was worth it.

Afternoon,
I have had a brief chat with DH this afternoon, DS wanted to go and see him so whilst DS was nosying at the site from the car park, I told DH that now that chest freezer was full again, we are going to start and use the food that is in there.
Tonight we are having chicken kiev, chips and peas for dinner; Tesco's had a special offer on them not long after Christmas so I bought some and we have one pack that has peppercorn sauce inside left.
Tomorrow I am using the beef up from Sunday and we are going to have that in a giant yorkshire pudding with mash and veg.
So far today I have spent £1.35 on milk for the kids and £1.90 on parking and I got away with 60p for playgroup instead of £1 as that was all the change I had first thing....out of the treat money for the kids, they had a packet of buttons each that cost £1.10 in total.0 -
Morning everyone,
Half way through the week already, oh well at least it's one step closer to weekend.
Today DS is not at pre-school, so out of their treat money we are going to the Wacky Warehouse, a total of £5.35 will get spent there today and as it's term time, the place we go to gives one free tea or coffee to the adultsI will take the kids own juice so that we aren't spending more than necessary.
I also have a bit of housework to do (BOOO!!!!) and the shopping list to sort out as shopping day is tomorrow whilst DS is at school.
Will update later when we get back from WW, have a good day everyone.
Forgot to mention, DH gave me another £2 coin last night...what a good boy! That went straight in my terramundi0 -
I have just remembered something, I have told DH that I am going to sign him up to Pigsback and Valued Opinions so that I can get more vouchers towards Christmas.
He seemed okay about that, so we'll see.0 -
My OH has done quite a lot of the surveys and stuff - I got him started a few weeks ago, and he has got £15 in lightspeed, and has already "cashed in" one toluna £12 voucher, and is half way towards another one. He doesn't "get" matched betting and certainly never looks at a bank statement, so I am very pleased that he is doing the surveys.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. It was your post on your diary that gave me the idea, my OH must have thought that I was being a cheeky mare :rotfl:0 -
There is nothing wrong with being a cheeky mare.......I think it is a very positive trait!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Me again,
Just when you thought it was safe to log on, up I pop
Just an update on today; the children and I have just come back from the Wacky Warehouse and it was rammed!!! DD didn't like it and apart from the odd walk about, she mainly threw herself on the floor and bawled her eyes out...proper drama queen she is (doesn't get it from me :A ) DS on the other hand couldn't be seen anywhere til it was the end of our session, well worth going.
It didn't cost as much as it did last time either, it was £4.50 for the two of them and DS had some sweets for 80p from the machines on the wall, I made full use of the free tea and biscuits on offer too :T
Tomorrow is shopping day, so tonight I am going to concoct some sort of list for Tesco's...I bet the I still forget something :rolleyes:0 -
Another day is here and it's another step closer to weekend :T
We had curry last night instead of the left over beef, that is going to be used tonight instead. For a change we didn't order one but bought a jar of Patak's paste to try and I can honestly say both of us were impressedwe also had some naan and poppadoms to go with it. I figured out that it is also cheaper than the Tesco's own brand curry sauce that we buy as a standby, as that only makes one curry and cost over a £1 but this will do us for three possibly four curries and costs just over £1 too...so many thanks bobbadog
Today, DS is back at pre-school this morning and apart from shopping I am going to try and not spend anything.
This week I have more money left in my purse than I did this time last week, so apart from putting the shrapnel in the pot on Sunday, I think that I will keep hold of the rest then I don't have to draw as much out of the bank next week.
Have a good day everyone and I will update later when I get back from shopping.0 -
That is good news about the curry - will save you a fortune!!
