  • Good morning one and all,

It's me again, hope you don't mind reading my nonsense.

Fairly good news today, I have paid off the balance on the Egg card :j this was possible because after much worrying and talking, DH agreed to use some of the savings from the inheritance his father left him a few years ago to clear it. He wanted to pay it off the Captial One card first but I told him that the interest was more on the Egg and I doubted that it would make much difference.

Okay it's not a huge amount off the total debt but I would rather owe a little over £10K than just over £15 any day. It does mean that the money that was being used to pay the Egg card a month can now go on to the Capital One Card as an extra payment and hopefully will reduce this.

I have told DH he needs to shop around for another card on 0% as the present deal for Capital One runs out at the end of May :(

Got a fairly busy day today, got to go to Post Office and post my parcel once DS is at pre-school and get home before 10am as my shopping is being delivered this morning.

Hope everyone has a good day and I will update later.
  • Morning all,

Well I didn't get to post again yesterday as the kids and I got treated to the local soft play centre by a friend of ours and by the time we got back and the kids had their dinner and a bath and bed it was too late for me as I was knackered!

Anyway, hubby is off flying this morning and we are going to take a trip up there in a little while. He works on the OP's desk for a local flying club most wekends and earns tach hours that enable him to fly, I must stress that him flying was paid for out of inheritance money left a few years ago and well before we got into the poo and if he didn't work at the club then he wouldn't be flying now as it is waaaayyyy to expensive.

The kids and are I going to go shopping this morning as I have some bits I need to get...nappies and nappy sacks, I have points on my Boots card so I am going to redeem some of them to get them.

DH and I are also going to take the kids to the local airfield and let DS ride on his bike...he loves watching the gliders take off and wastes a few hours, which in the sunshine should be fantastic today.

I have spotted a lovely necklace on E-bay that I have my eye on, which will be superb as a present for my niece for Christmas, this will come out of my Paypal account, if I decide to buy it.

As for the £30 I gave myself at the beginning of the week, well....I have a grand total of £2 and shrapnel left, but I don't need to buy anything today so that should last me a while.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi Purpletea..sounds like you are really motivated at the moment and spending diaries are the right way to go definitely...hope you had a lovely day at the air field
  • Morning All,

Well after a wonderful day yesterday at the airfield, both children went to bed with a smile on their faces after running about oh and after having some chocolate after dinner :D

Plan for today is to get motivated. Besides DS going to pre-school I have playgroups to go to with DD and I sort of lost last week and went completely off track so missed one playgroup totally and the house looks like a bomb's hit it.

So today, I am going to do some house work and get dinner ready for tonight.

DH gave me another £2 coin last night, so that has gone in my terramundi and after my dilemma with the £2 coins during the week, I must confess that I did change them for money out of my demi-john and put them into my terramundi :o

I still have £2 left from the week and if I don't spend it today, I will use it to get some Tesco stamps and start another card towards Christmas.

Hope everyone has a fab day.

Another advocate for spendingdiary.com here (though I have to confess I need to get back into soing it myself!!)

You're sounding really motivated - just what I need to read as I have begun to slip out of the DFW ways a little at the moment and need to get back on track - reading diaries always helps with that, so thanks!!

Just wondering if you have a plan what to do with the £2 coins once you break the terramundi?
  • Just wondering if you have a plan what to do with the £2 coins once you break the terramundi?

I was originally going to save them towards the car taxes for both DH and my cars but now I'm not too sure. Part of me wants to put them towards something worthwhile such as a course but another part of me wants to put it towards the debt, as I reckon that once it is full there will be quite a bit in there....decisions, decisions!

I got fed up of them being in a separate pot so put them in my terramundi along with my £1 coins so I wouldn't be tempted to keep counting them.
  • Wait and see what you have when its full. Clearing a bill like car tax is worthwhile because then more wages can go at the debt. Second course of action is to put some towards bill/debt and the rest towards a treat for saving hard.

  • Morning all,

The start of a brand new week and an aim to save even more money.

Today I have to drop DS at pre-school, then I am going to go the bank and draw my £30 out for the week, so that I have it in my purse and because I need to get some yogurts for the kids. Also I am planning to get some more stuff on e-bay and see if I can get rid of even more.

I have been thinking, does happen to me occassionally...out of the £30 I am going to put £10 a side for the kids treat money during the week and then anything that is left at the end will get put in the pot. The other £20 will then be for anything needed during the week.

So far this week, I anticipate little or no spending but a nice clean and tidy house and happy children....just hope that the weather is nice too.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

Just a brief update on matters here.

I haven't spent much today...I did get DH some lunch stuff, snack eggs, Tikka bites and mini sausages, whilst I was at Tesco's and have some frozen so that next week I won't need to buy any; I also got some yogurts for the kiddie winks and a few other essentials forgotten in the shopping last week. This I am taking out of the shopping money as the whole lot cost £18.

The house is looking reasonable now so am fairly happy on that score.

Other thinking I have been doing is I am going to try and cut down on the alcohol I drink...I won't tell you how much I drink and it probably isn't as much as some people drink but also probably too much compared to other people. This I feel will also save us a bit of money in the long run.

Good luck with the alcohol thing, Tea - that's one thing I find really quite difficult to cut down on, especially after a long day at work. I try and think of the 'real cost' of every glass I have, to talk myself out of it really! x
