I turned ours off at the end of February because we couldn't afford to buy more oil! With just hot water it seems to last much much longer. I virtually live in my dressing gown now (except today is actually quite warm)
We have oil too but also have a wood burner which links into heating system. I have been turning oil off and using wood. I have even found a lot in a field that we can scavange, with permission to take it. All of us wear fleeces in the house too!

The new house being converted next door won't have the wood and oil linked and I am worried about the costs of heating it. Our plan is to move in there when the kids have left home.

Look into cost of a new mattress - work out whether its worth getting a whole new bed or not?

Would you be interested in buying my bedframe off me? Were looking to get rid of it so we can move pauls bed here as he has all the furniture to match and its all more baby friendly (but we will be keeping my matress as his is MINGING and old)

I was looking to advertise it on loot/ebay etc.. and was gonna ask about £50 for it to put towards baby fund.......but id be willing to do a special family rate :p:rotfl:

( Try this place for matress: http://www.house2home.org.uk/ - this is where i got the bed and matress from and my matress was £90 and was the top of the range one but they start at about 1/2 that......)

(P.S. you dont want a 2nd hand ikea sofa too do you?! :rotfl: Im wanting rid of that too.... no room for it!!)

    Hello!
I've not read the thread yet so hello and hugs to everyone. I've just done a very embarrassing thing. My friend took me shopping and we popped into the supermarket on the way home. I went to pick up a bottle of wine because another friend is coming round tonight, only I picked it up with my bad hand and screamed. A shelf stacker next to me dropped half a case of wine on the floor because I scared him. You guessed it - they smashed. I walked off as if i'd done nothing so I think he thinks he's going mad :o:o:o .

House update. We offered 95k. Now the most recent sale in thats treet was 110k with brand new windows, heating, kitchen, bathroom, drive, house painted outside and immaculate inside. This one has council windows over 15yr old, a coal fire, BADLY needs decorating and a huge crack in the cielings through 2 rooms upstairs.

They said no. They want to wait and see what other offers they get. Estate agent said put a note of interest in, I said I will think about it, the house isn't worth any more with the work needing doing to it and another house in better condition is coming on the market in the next few months (I love gosspiy neighbours!) EA was a bit taken back.

So, greedy seller, they can go shove. We have been yes'ing and no'ing about the house so maybe this way is better.

    My listy!

    Hoovered floors
    Mopped floors
Said no to DH about another laptop (we NEED to cut back! plus it was crappy spec)
    Cleaned TV
Dusted and wet wiped living room
    Cleaned worktops in the kitchen

I think I have done good!

Johanne - I went over a week with DS, really, really symptise with you, are people saying to you 'any news yet/still here then?' I wanted to whack people LOL

PLEASE STOP the talk of spiders!!!!! I HATE them, I itch just thinking about them and reading all that has wound me right up.

Thanks for the hugs! My day is so much better thanks, quite uneventful apart from DS falling off the slide at toddlers.

Have got some ironing to do but can't be bothered - no change there then! Anyone got any kicks??

Tai - sounds like the right decision, you never know they might come back to you but at least your thinking with your head and not throwing money at it to get it.

Even if they did come back to us, I doubt I would go for it now. I hold a grudge for a long time! :D :rotfl:

Plus, we had a lovely evening with the neighbours and I don't want to move now! I want to get quotes for a drive (funny story about when we blocked in a church go-er after DH and neighbour couldn't get parked in our own street!) and quotes for converting the loft. And eventually we will buy a laptop and move this PC upstairs and put a small table and chairs here.

Oh yeah I got plans for all outcomes! :rotfl:

*refrains from calling DH and saying get that laptop!*

Well played Tia, i cant be doing with greedy people. And like my dad always says, 'whats for you wont go past you'.

  • Oh tia that is pants - Last time we were buying the same thing happened to us - we put in what we thought was a fair offer and... they declined... they went to a closing date and I had the EA on the phone telling us to put the SAME offer in - I refused.

The next week we went to look at a place and we are there now :D Mum has an annoying saying - What is for you won't go by you... 'tis true.

A few months ago I checked out what the other house had actually sold for  turns out sealed bids acutally did the seller a lot of good... us too :D

I know what you mean about not wanting that house Tia. When we bought this house we originally put an offer on one in the next street. We got gazumped just before it was all going to go through. The people who gazumped us then pulled out and they tried to sell to us again. I told them 'no thankyou' or words to that affect. Anyway, recently I had a new client. They ended up buying the house and they've had problems with drains collapsing in the garden and the conservatory started to sink. Thank goodness we didn't buy it!!! I always think good neighbours are worth so much xx
