For those of you with lots of breadcrumbs in your freezer, make your own stuffing for your roast. Sweat of some onions, fresh chopped sage (soak in boiling water for a few minutes first. Mix together, add the sage water plus more hot if you need it. Then just add salt, pepper and butter. Much nicer than paxo!0

Both of these sound delish!! Never heard of frozen garlic b4 though - can you tell me where you get it frm please........
Asda in the frozen branded Asian foods section. Last time I looked it was a large box on offer for 50p, usually £1 IIRC. Can't find it on MySupermarket for some reason. Morrisons also do frozen chopped garlic but it is more expensive than the Asda crushed.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I buy Good to Know (food) magazine, this month they are having a budget special, they have 27 recipes where the portions work out at less than a £1 per person - mixture of stuff, all courses.
Its fairly budget conscious anyway, its very much family fayre. They have the pick of the celebrity chef recipes too.
It features a lot on meal planning each month.
Anyway apart from all the usual recipes - 27 for under £1 a portion.

Thanks for all the lovely recipes!!! I've just made some fish pie as suggested in this thread. My first ever fish pie and it was absolutely delicious!
Here is another idea:
Chicken and leek pie:
I think it should feed about 4 (I'm not too good with measurements as I tend to make it up so i hope that's right)
2 medium sized leeks
brown bits from chicken (I generaly use the leftovers from a roast)
chicken stock (approx 300ml-made from the carcass of previously mentioned roast chicken!)
mushrooms (100g?)
puff pastry (300g should be enough)
cream (just a splash)
flour
Cut the leeks in small bits and fry for a few minutes
Add the stock, mushrooms and chicken and leave on low heat for 20 minutes.
Add the splash of cream and a bit of flour (corn or plain) and stir well
Season to taste (I like it with basil)
Put the lot in an oven dish and cover with the pastry (no pastry at the bottom, just the top)
Put in the oven at 200 for 40 minutes.
That's it! OH absolutely loves it even though he doesn't normally like leek (or anything green really...)0 -
This is a great site thanks MrsE:-)0

Checked out the carrot cake and it's a very similar recipe to the one I use, which is very yum. The main difference is the use of brown sugar, might have to try that.
Thanks for the heads up, going to check out if my local has the mag tomorrow. :money:0 -

The 10 minute carrot cake isn't the same as the one on the web site.
I stand in awe of your cake making if yours are like that:D
The 10 minute one is just throw everything in a mix & tip into a loaf tin (I buy those preliners so really easy & they prob work out cheaper than greaseproof paper, I get quite a few in a pack for under £2).
The topping is cream cheese, vanilla & icing sugar.
The topping is ok, I think chopped hazelnuts sprinkled on top would look nicer, but the cake is AMAZING for something so simple:D0
