My girls love bachelors cheese and broc pasta and sauce I just add ham to a packet serve two for about 65p

my boys love this aswell but i tend to look out for reduced brocolli and make my own (infact thats what i've just been doing) a whole brocolli some milk, butter, and 1/2 a tub of creme fraice makes enough to feed all 5 of us

Found this website whilst on the prowl for ideas last night.
OK I doubt all of it will be cooking completely from scratch with it being for students and all but might give some people some ideas for cheap-ish recipes :D

One of my cheap quicky meals is my version of Risotto.I love doing this, as you can throw in any veg you have and use up any leftovers, and even better, it is a one pan dish so not much washing up.

Ok so im not much of a cook, but here goes:-

    handful of mushrooms
    courgette
    Peppers
pack of batcehlors savory rice (I like beef flavour) - I hate regular risotto rice
    tin of chopped tomatoes
    couple of onions
    dash of soy sauce

Slice the onions, musrooms, courgette, peppers (or whatever else you have) and fry for a couple of mins, add the tin of chopped toms and the packet of batchelors rice with water (however much it tells you to put in on the pack) simmer for 20 mins or so, add a dash of soy sauce and enjoy.
The opposite of what you know...is also true

My Jambalaya, all depends on what you have left over, its like a south western version of a piella but feeds an army lol

Meat chicken/bacon/sausage even hot dog sausages thats what i use/pork anything!! or use all of it together or some and not all.
    1 Onion
    1/2-1 tin of chopped toms
    make up some stock
Any veg you have left spinich/cabbage/peas/potatoes anything
    1/4 tsp of chilli powder1
1 tsp curry powder-hot/medium whatever you have.
    1 tbsp tom puree
    clove of garlic
if you have any left over bread and its about to go out of date blend it into bread crumbs
    salt n pepper to taste
basmati rice- however optional but i cant stand any other rice but this

    1. in a large saucepan with oil fry onions garlic veg etc first
    2. add meat/s
    3. add toms and puree keep stirring
    4. add spices mix again
    5. add bread crumbs if desired, just goes futher thats why i add it.
    6. make enough stock to ratio of rice ie 2 cups of basmati rice too 4 cups of water add more water later if needed.
    7. allow to boil down by reducing heat and allow to simmer put lid on saucepan, come back an occasionally stir it.
goes down a treat in my house and have loads left to freeze.
Trying to make big cut backs!!!

Jamaican Patties also go down well i find chicken mince is cheaper than beef mince yesterday i spent about £2 on chicken mince.
Patties normally are about £1 each to buy and i made 22 patties you can find recipes on caribbean forums but i make these for partners pack up lunch and he loves them, i keep them frozen and take one out when needed and let them defrost put in the microwave and job done ready to eat xxx
sometimes we have it as a meal rather than a snack served with chips, its like a not to spicy cornish pasty..........well sort of lol

Yesterday I whipped myself up a quick dinner before the match using a small anount of pasta, a tin of mackerel in sunflower oil drained and mixed with the end of a jar of horseradish and a few capers... and v nice it was too. That has to be under #1.. am guessing pennies for the capers, horseradish and pasta and about 30-40p for the mackerel

    BBQ Chicken

    8-10 drumsticks
    1 onion chopped
    butter
    Tin of tomatoes
    brown sugar
    honey
    brown sauce
    seasoning

Fry the onion in the butter, add the honey, brown sauce, seasoning and brown sugar. (I can't remember the measurements as I now go by taste but it is around 1 - 2 teaspoons of each. Just add until you like the taste!) Add the tin of chopped tomatoes.

Put the chicken in an oven proof dish and pour the sauce over. Cook until chicken is tender.

I serve with rice or jacket potato.
