Hello,
I don't know all the details, but I'm pretty sure that O2 have an exclusive contract with Apple for the iphone, which means that it will be locked to that network. I was having a conversation about this with the technical chap in the Apple shop when I took my Mac in to be looked at. Eventually of course, the iphone will be available on other networks, but at the moment you can only get it on O2.
Although, why not change to O2 anyway? I'm sure they will port the existing number across. I'm not sure about the deals though - I'd just keep my eyes peeled until his current contract ends and see what comes up.
Hope this helpsThe best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0 -

Unlocking is easy as well. I just downloaded itunes, installed, it, plugged in the iphone, then ran Zipphone, and that was it.~*Cerenia*~

Just bought an 8GB iPhone for £169 (Carphonewarehouse or O2 shop), downloaded and ran ziphone (http://www.ziphone.org), updated to Apple V1.1.4 s/w from iTunes, popped in my Orange SIM (better contract than O2) and away it went.
Really easy. You get the choice of contract that suits you, not O2.0 -
Don;t forget to go through QuidCo who are offering another £100 off via O2 Shop so can save £200 on the price.Cheers

You'll only get that QuidCo £100 after you've activated a contract. Has been discussed repeatedly over the last week if you search for iPhone £169 on the forums you'll find plenty to read about!!!The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Don't forget that unlocking your iPhone may invalidate the warranty0

Surely, you have just bought an O2 contract as well, when you paid £169 for the phone?0
