To be honest non belief is a belief exactly like all the rest and like all the rest it has all the exact same human failings... in the interests of balance.
You are 100% right that religion is a purely man made phenomenon.
But belief and non belief are not the same things. Religion is founded on a book, a set of stories or myths and most religions are emphatic that only they are right.
It is almost the definition of fundamentalism that their book is the right one and their god ( there are so many~) is the only one to believe in.
Non belief is free thinking. The burden of proof is not upon atheist or non deist freethinkers, it is upon the religious nutters who are at the source of so much hate and aggression in this world from Pakistan to Belfast.
Would we be better off without religion?Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

To me it's no different between light on and light off. They're both human choices, two sides of the exact same coin. If non believers were really true to their cause then why would you even care of the freedoms of others to believe and think what they want or not? It just seems to me that certain atheists protest and preach far too much over something they have truly no want for. Maybe they have issues, god only knows... or not. You speak of free thinking, well allow others that exact same courtesy to think what they chose, why should it even bother you what they do with their lives. I personally truly don't care a hoot how everyone reads their books, inside out, back to front, front to back, upside down, left to right, right to left, alternating, hopping on one leg, holding serpents or not at all. Life's far too short and there's not enough free books.
To answer your question, The Communists tried that and it didn't work. It seems to me the only true honest non believers on this planet are the animals, they just get on with it and don't bother anyone in the process.0 -
Dear All
For those in the Peterborough area, you can pick up a free copy of a Koran translated in English along with other literature about Islam at the Bretton Community Festival on Saturday, 19th July.

Do you understand the differences then?
Christian means christ like. They base their beliefs on the Bible, as it is written without taking away or adding. Check the history of the translation and the translations used to publish this translation.0 -

I have to say Ive read several "versions" of the Bible and the Witnesses one is that which makes the most sense! It has been translated by scholars and not been changed over the years to suit the monarchs or priests of the time. For example, God's name only appears once in the King James version (and only where it was essential to make sense) because it had been removed in all other places.0 -
I thought this was a money-saving site. There's no need to point out anything other than free holy books. Anything else is likely to cause arguments.
That's not to say people can't PM each other about whatever they want, but there's a time and a place for everything, and this isn't the best place for religious debate. Just my opinion...but it's right! ;-)0 -
Just received The Prophesied End-Time a crisp new paperback edition, large double spaced text. Still no Koran.0

No, Jolanta is correct. You cannot be a 'Jewish Christian' or a 'Jewish Muslim' in the same way that you cannot be a blond chinese. We are talking ethnicity and not nationality or a 'chosen religion' here. Once you equate Judaism and Israel, as is enshrined in the Israeli constitution, you have a state founded on ethnic purity, a la old South Africa.
As soon as the Israeli authorities see the 'Israeli arab' vote growing big enough to pose a threat, they'll move to disenfranchise them, as sure as night follows day. They only reason they do tolerate them at the moment is to be able to pretend to be a democracy when begging for arms and aid to the US.0 -
Please note that the post below should read 28 & 29 June. Apologies for any confusion caused.Dear All
For those in the Peterborough area, you can pick up a free copy of a Koran translated in English along with other literature about Islam at Central Park during the Peterborough Festival on 26 & 27 June.

Regardless of my (lack of
) belief, I may order some of these books in the interests of learning how other people think and what they base their lives / decisions on.
Why the squabbling?
I don't have to believe in God(s) to appreciate why certain religious rules have come about and how they affect today's society.

I'm a fool quite often0
