To quote an overused over emphasized quote yet again in the uber true interests of total balance, I'm furthest from a pro-religionist you can get. Maybe next time I'll draw you a map, but rational irrational rationality aside, the human failing I referred to was the use of a well dog-eared smugness supertrump card. Bascially to draw you that "map," everyone and anyone always thinks their lucky pants are pristine perfect and sexy even, yet while standing waste deep in the same moron sewer as the rest of humanity. You're all human, there is no contrast.Jolanta_Nowak wrote: »No, it isn't. This is the well-known and widely discredited proposition of the pro-religionists who know when they're on a sticky wicket argument-wise and try to make out that atheism is just another viewpoint.
The difference between the two is that 'non-belief' is based on rational thought rather than irrational leaps of faith. Therein lies a whole world of contrast. Rational thought is not a 'human failing'...

And yet again 'smugness' struts its inimitable stuff, masquerading spuriously as evenhandedness.0

And low sarcasm, a lone child flies most verbosely yet in wingless excellence, through the follicled misty glade of viscous thesaurusness on one's pate, Roget made proud. *jazz hands*
To get back on the subject, I received another Bible today, nicely shrink wrapped, together with a covering letter and a soft cover booklet on "What the bible teaches." Again would make a nice gift. The bible is another King James edition more of a standard paperback in size, vinyl/soft card covered and pack labeled as a Classic Reference Bible by the Trinitarian Bible Society. It features a sewn binding, standard gold embossed cover and spine, fine bible paper pages, nice tri-column format, colour maps, a presentation page for gifting and most of the same features as the previous larger bible I received.
I am yet to receive The Qur’an I ordered.0 -
I'm Jewish, so i'll give a slant on the Torah not being available free...
As a faith, we're not in the business of recruiting new people. The only reason the other books are given free is to 'spread the word'.
If you wanted to get a Jewish prayer book, i would recommend the Artscroll Siddur (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Artscroll-Siddur-Mesorah/dp/0899066542/ref=pd_sim_b_img_3).
I did get a 'free' siddur (daily prayer book) when I joined a scheme called Tribe (membership of jewish communities for under 30s in London) but it costs £5 a month to join.0 -
Just checked and neither of the two bibles I received carry this message, but it doesn't mean they've been revised either. To be fully sure if you could quote one or a few of these mistakes it would be easy to check.Dear All
I previously came across a version of the King James Bible (revised standard version (1971)) that had the following message on page iii, paragraph 6 of the PREFACE:
"Yet the King James version has grave defects" and "That these defects are so many and so serious as to call for a revision".
I trust that the recipients of the latest version of King James Bible does not have this message.

Shouldn't be a problem if you only want to read the book and don't want to invite them in to discuss it - although they will ask if they can discuss it with you - some will be a little more persuasive than others.
If you just want to find out info about the church of Jesus Christ try this website too if you are intrested

I was able to get a mint copy of The Book Of Mormon from a local charity shop, I've sourced a good few religious texts that way.

Oh forgot to mention, this morning's bible delivery was from: http://www.goodnews4liverpool.com/freebible.html0 -

Thanks, I've checked and they both list 7 years of famine, 18 years old, 700 chariots and 40,000 horsemen, 2000 baths and 40,000 stalls. Are they the revised versions? As requested:
